Well, she didn't make it..The hardest part is the explaining to a 4 yr.old that these things happen..

Unfortunately this sometimes happens with chickens. If your other birds are fine it could just be a genetic thing. At 3 mos. it's hard to tell. Especially if your other birds show no sign of problem. I've had hens fine in the morning and dead in the afternoon. I've had friends just find a hen dead in the yard for no apparent reason. Could be kidneys or a heart problem..

I am sorry for your loss,

I'm very sorry for your loss (read this to your daughter)
It will be okay. You can make a memorial of your blessed hen. Remember her, keep her in your thoughts and just know you tried your best to keep her alive. She'll be watching you from chicken heaven and you can pray to her always. She'll always love you and care for you. She's still your hen, and she'll always be in your heart, you'll always be in hers.

Your picture isn't showing up....

Plug your camera into your computer... access it and copy the pictures you want to post into a folder on your computer.

Then.. come back to BYC, signed in, next to Recent Posts is Upload.. go there.... click on BROWSE.. find the folder on your computer with the picture in it.. click on the picture... (the file location will show up in the box)... then, click on UPLOAD. Now, you cannot close that page until it finishes uploading.

The only problem may be that I think you have to have a certain number of posts before you can upload pictures.

If she was sick already, got weak, then the others would or could attack her... I had one young hen "murdered" by the others -- I didn't isolate her as she was getting better... but, they killed her because she was weak.

You might give her some antibiotics in her water as well... just in case she was sick before they attacked her.

Good advice to take from dawg53... that's the right process / action to take.

Good luck.
