Oh yeah, rotisseried Duck for Dinner . . .

Thanks again everyone for your comments. I've been telling dh about everything you've said and he is sounding more and more convinced. Last night before bed he said "I see ducks in your future, Barb."

This a.m. we looked up the pronunciation of Muscovy. I won't put them in with the chickens this time around so we still have logistics to figure out that are inexpensive but adaquate for housing, growing out and maintaining a number of ducks year around.

, I have a female muscovy and two males, and none of her eggs were fertile, despite the fact that the guy I got them from said he raised only muscovy ducks. What gives?

It is possible the guy made the mistake and sold you "mule ducks" which is a sterile cross fm a Muscovy. See this link if you're interested:

I have a hard time w/the idea of processing also. dh, so far has done the deed and does not enjoy it at all.

but.... he enjoyed that duck dinner so much last night that we are thinking it will be worthwhile. It's a mental thing. I've got a ways to go. I just did the cooking and eating but am thinking I will help w/the plucking next time since dh has the hardest time w/that. yesh!

Oh, yes duck is so yummy. I love roast duck. I plan on getting some. They will be fenced in - with a roof. because I live on a lake with gators in it. My dinner, not theirs.

This place, BYC, has me getting into things I had only dreamed of doing. I'm planning/hoping for geese in the very near future.

Thanks again, Miss Prissy and Greyfields, for the encouraging words about ducks/geese.

PC, glad to hear the drink tip. I've put the knife in place and shut my eyes when I made the cut. I have to keep telling myself that people have been doing this for 1000s of years. Once I get to the plucking part, it's much easier. I wish I had a BF/DH who I could get to do the deed for me. Or if my dad was still here, I know he'd do it.

Where do you get a rotisserie?

Where do you get a rotisserie?

I have a wonderful retro rotisserie - the Capri roto-broil-400.

A cousin had it in storage forever, never used it and asked if I'd like it. It is now my fav. way of fixing chicken. Yummmmmm! Only problem with it is when it was made the chickens sold were smaller so I can only get a 5lb or smaller bird in it.

I've seen rotisseries that can accomodate 1 -2 birds selling at Wal-Mart and other dept. stores esp. around Christmas. Tis the Season . . . mayhap you can gift yourself w/one.

If you are not sure of the taste of duck. A decent oriental resturant will have pekin duck. Warning pekin ducks are very very cute. My ducks are pets and I buy all my duck meat without feathers on it. Pre cooked with plum sauce is my idea of duck.

I have a large collection of ducks here. Honest if got them before my chickens, may never of gotten the chickens. Unlike my chickens if I ask the ducks to go in for the night they quack and waddle to safe places for the night.
