Well, I have bad news and good news, Marengoite -- and they're both the same news: I won't have any chicks for sale before next fall. I'm just learning them myself, and won't sell chicks until I've hatched out and raised a generation myself first to make sure I'm happy with the results.

Ketcham, yep! Mine just hunkered in the coop for three days and showed absolutely zero interest in going out, lol! I don't blame them. It was yucky!

Hi there... I'm a newbie. Just started our first flock two weeks ago. I'm in Granville Township. We have 5 partridge rocks, 3 black australorps, & 2 easter eggers. All are growing well and getting feathered. Hope to get the coop design hammered down and get it built soon. Looking forward to some yummy & pretty eggs.

I started with a bunch of "utility" chickens -- rocks, aussies, hatchery wyandottes and delawares -- and am working on expanding into breeder-quality birds, looking for rarer breeds and varieties that that are still good egg-layers and dual-purpose birds. Plus, just for fun, I just ordered some serama eggs -- whee!

Hello, I'm new here in every possible way -- new to NE Ohio, new to the forum, and new to the idea of backyard chickens! We have about 3 acres. I haven't started raising chickens yet, I want to learn what I can, build a proper coop and safe free range area, and plan to start next spring. I want to just get a few Orpingtons to lay eggs and be nice pets. I'm into organic, so I'm wondering if anyone grows their own feed or if you can recommend any organic Orpington chicken hatcheries and feed suppliers in NE Ohio.

I've been having a hard time finding organic feed, too - especially that's not insanely priced. I use T&C mash and supplement with home-grown corn, veggies and sunflower seeds. As far as organic breeders -- I know you won't get "organic" birds from the hatcheries, so your best bet is a local breeder. I'll keep an ear out for who's raising Orps in the area!

Yes, that angel is my girl, Mary. I volunteer for a local bird rescue and we took in Mary with her 2 brothers, Gabriel and Michael, when they were 2 days old. I had to rehome Michael since the testosterone on my pond got overwhelming with two boys...but Mary and Gabriel are lifers, for sure! They are both SUPER friendly and follow me everywhere while I'm doing chores. If I'm late on a weekend bringing their breakfast, they knock on my front door with their beaks! I love love love them to pieces!

That's so wonderful! I don't have a pond, or I would SO have swans! And thanks -- I agree, Seramas are really delightful Besides, who doesn't need a house chicken? lol!
