We moved last year from Mantua, Ohio and we miss the total package you might say. I miss going to Indians games and the winter time most. We lived there over four years and we had a blast. We had a camper at Bay Shore (Lake Pymatuning) were we camped almost every weekend from May to the end of September. My daughter even claims to be from Ohio when in fact she was born in Tennessee. We have a lot of great memories and my wife periodically travels to Valley City a couple of times during the year on business. This was my first year in 5 not to go to Jacobs Field. I know they changed it this year to Progressive Field however it will always be Jacobs Field to me. I never did become a Buckeye or Browns Fan however I do like the Steelers. I noticed while living there that people in the Streetsboro/Ravenna area were split about 50/50 with the Browns/Steelers patronage. Sorry for the long message I guess you can tell that I miss being in NE Ohio. Your great state has a lot to offer and I can say that with some experience. I retired from the Army and have traveled extinsively here and abroad.

I'm an Ohio State Alum, so of course I'm a big Buckey fan! I enjoy Indians games a lot, but am only a Brown's fan in the smallest sense of the word. Good thing this year huh? Good ol' Brownies, the team we love to hate.

I was just at 'The Corners' today getting air in my tires, since that's the only place for miles around with free air! I know you know what I mean!

PortageGirl. Kinda funny since I'm originally from the south. Our first winter storm I went to Haylett's to buy milk, eggs, and bread (you know the essentials). I go back to the house and tell my wife the following: Your not going to believe that people are not buying perishables for the storm however they are buying beer and liquor. By the end of my first winter I fully understood the process. I now laugh at my southern brethren who panick at the forecast of a snowflake. My children missed two days of school last week for a dusting of snow. My daughter laughed when they cut them loose 2hours early due to the possibility of snow. That night it snowed maybe a half an inch and the locals here called it four inches. I told my neighbors they needed to get a ruler and learn how to use it. They looked kinda funny at me and I told them about Mantua. They did not get it. I fully understand what a snow shovel and snowblower are for and you do to. You mentioned that your a Ohio State Alum and I am glad to hear that. While living there I rarely met anyone who went to school there. I mainly heard Kent State, Akron, Hiram, John Carroll, Cleveland State, and Baldwin-Wallace. I am a Univ. of TN Alum however my wife completed most of her masters at Baldwin-Wallace. Well I better go for now. I hope you and your father had a Merry Christmas and have a Great New Year!

I see you're from Mantua... I know where that is. I was at the Ox Roast in '07 (my DH pulls tractors so we went up to the pull there, but we missed it this past summer).

Hello fellow buckeyes! I'm glad I ran across this thread--nice to see all the chicken folks in Ohio! I live in Wadsworth, Ohio (Medina County...just outside Akron). Originally I'm from Kirtland, Ohio in Lake County. I got my first chicken accidentally this past spring....a chicken wandered into the city and showed up on my doorstep. I'm not even joking! Needless to say, I've been in love with chickens ever since. My uncle just got me an incubator for Christmas, so I'll be hatching my own here soon!

Everyone single one of them are little sweet hearts and the noises they make in the morning don't really sound like chickens I've ever heard.

If you have kids you can't go wrong with Buckeyes, at least from the little experience I have with them. My niece and nephews bring them over table scraps and cracked corn a few times a week and I haven't had a problem with the chickens being agressive at all. It's funny watching them all follow the kids around like little dogs waiting for treats. Sometimes I wonder if they aren't dogs disguised as chickens!!? lol

I got mine at Meyer Hatchery in Polk OH. While I was surfing the web for chicks I stumbled across them and found out that they are located about 10 miles from my house. They have a nice little store on the farm that you can find most ANYTHING you need for raising chickens. I strongly suggest them.

I want Buckeyes so bad!! I live in Oregon now but I'm a born and bred Buckeye (Helena, Ohio) so I simply must have these for my flock. I am resisting the urge to place an order for this year because we are building a new coop but I don't know if I will be able to make it! The temptation is just too much....
