OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

Hey, everyone! I recently entertained a random thought about raising chickens. I made an incubator for $1 and hatched my first chick. Within two weeks of that, I am up to six birds with 18 eggs in the incubator! I live in Osgood in north Darke county, and I work at Dannon yogurt in Minster. We have the culture for our product shipped in thick styrofoam coolers ov various sizes, perfect for incubators! I would like to make friends with other local chicken- lovers, and possibly swap/ share birds, so may I ply you with offers of coolers?

What do you do with all your chickens? Ant how much space do they take up? I'm getting into this as a hobby. I grew up on a layer farm, where the hens were ugly and mean. Of course they were just bedraggled and miserable. I'm making up for it now by taking very good care of the ones I have. I want to donate their eggs to a charity farmer's market and take my silkie to nursing homes. I'd also like my hobby to pay for itself. Do you know of any local venues to sell chickens? I know there's a weekly auction in Degraff, but I've heard bad things about the conditions there. Someone I know sells Seramas and Silkies at Max's in Lima. I'd also like to give a few chickens a show carreer, mostly so I can meet people. If we meet at one of these venues, I could bring you plain yogurt for your chickens.

I lived there as a child. Do you know where Graytown is? That is where we lived before moving to Jackson, Ohio. Now we live close to Lucasville, Ohio. I have family still living in Genoe, Claycenter, Curtice, Clyde, Port Clinton, Graytown and I have a brother still living in Fremont. Do you know any Hamilton's, Lowe's, or Hall's? DJ

I moved here about 8 years ago from Mississippi.I was born here though. Those names don't ring a bell. When I first moved here I worked at Walmart as a Dept.MGR for 6 years (waist of time) but met alot of people that way. Those names don't ring a bell though.Alot of people here think I'm crazy to have chickens and ducks.I was hoping to find someone close by to share my passion with or just knows what the heck I'm talking about when I even say "Our little Easter Egger Pullet" They are stumped. Most people here has any idea chickens can lay colored eggs other then brown and white.
