Hello from Marshallville!!! Well how is everybodys chickens doing during the snow????Out of 15 hens,,,still getting 7 to 10 eggs a day,,no light in the coop..I don't think they like being "cooped up"either..I put a few out in the snow and they just looked at me .HaHa!!! So picked them up and put them back..Fresh water and straw to keep them happy...Kevin

Hello, Ketcham! Yeah, mine are wusses about the snow, too

Their coop is one side of the lean-to on the back of the barn, though, so I open it up and they hang out in the lean-to most of the day, which gives them a nice big "play" area. They have absolutely no interest in going out into the run!

I gave my girls a supplemental light at the end of November, after they'd finished their molt. Took about a week, but the grown-ups are all back to laying regularly. I already turned the timer back by a couple of hours, and will turn it back a little more at the end of next week. I'm tempted to turn it off entirely and see how they do now, but I do so love those fresh eggs!

I have bantam cochins and they want no part of the snow. They have a covered area in the run that they will go out into but they are not taking any chances stepping into the snow. The silkies on the other hand dont mind the snow.....

Mine will not go outside in the snow either. I gave them a flock block to keep them busy. I did put on some supplemental light because I was only getting 2-3 eggs a day from 11 chickens. :barnie

This my first year with chickens, so its all new to me.I have no suplemnt light, eggs still coming but just slight drop in number.I have 4 hens laying was getting 2-3 eggs a day now its 1-2 a day.concern is fallowing this round of cold/snow my chickens are only consuming about half the food & water they where before, they have a heated water is this normal or should i do something. they will not go outside but a min. in a covered run.

I went out and shoveled and packed down their run during the first snow then opened the coop for them to get out. My buff orp went to the door poked her head out looked down at the snow made a noise and went back inside. Me thinks she was complaining about the snow. :D After that none would venture out. After that I have kept their their ramp, any perches and the spool where the flock block sits cleared off. They seem much happier that they only have to get down to drink and still can be outside and out of the snow....mostly.
