OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

thanks for posting! when we bought the property we did some research and discovered that the deed restrictions for the subdivision were never recorded! the developer gave us the go ahead... but, I wanted to make sure there weren't some township restrictions. if we do get some hens, do you usually have to have the coop inspected? or is that more of a city thing?

That's definitely a city thing. If the developer is ok with it you should be fine.
I'm not familiar with Union township, where is that in relation to Granville Village?

Hi all! I am sort of new to this forum and just found my way to the Ohio page! We live in SW Ohio. Anyone have any hatching eggs in the NKY/Cincy/DAY area?

we are just SW of Granville. west of 37 & just south of 16. maybe 10 minutes from downtown granville.
also, I really only want to start with about 4 hens... most places I have found online require a min of 10 or more to order. Meyer offers a min 3 if you order after march, I think. I am anxious to get started though.
I would really like an ameraucana and a maran. not sure about the other 2. any suggestions about where I should go?

Ok... I know where you are. You have to forgive me... I'm new to Ohio, now I see it was a silly question! LOL I live a bit north and east of the village up the hill passed the mansion. I'd be happy to introduce you to my girls if you want to meet the flock.

I ordered from Meyer in September and my chicks came in late October. It was a great transaction and I am very happy with my girls. I don't know of anything local except for someone who posts on Craigslist up in Johnstown listing http://columbus.craigslist.org/grd/3540422538.html I've also heard that Tractor Supply has chicks in the Spring as does Granville Milling but I don't know about that for sure.

We have SPR eggs out of Dick Horstman stock. They are beautiful and friendly birds. We are about 40 minutes north of Dayton. Feel free to message me if you are interested.

I ordered from chickens for backyards. They are out of Texas and required me to order a minimum of 4 chicks. I ordered 6. Among them an EE and a maran. All arrived healthy, lived and are now laying. :) I later found out that hatchery marans usually don't lay dark brown eggs. My maran's eggs are only slightly darker than my other brown egg layers. And my EE who has a pea comb also lays a brown egg. A light brown egg but it is still brown, sigh

A question for the experienced chicken fanciers. Is mulch harmful to chickens? I really don't want to use sand in the chicken yard so am looking into alternitives. Thanks in advance. :D
