OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

Just finishing up my back yard coop here east of Cincinnati. Always have chickens as a kid and looking forward to having a small flock soon. Will be looking for a few hens if anyone needs to down size?

I thought about 1", I'm apprehensive since our coop won't be inside the fenced portion of our land. I've seen some foxes, I'm sure there is a raccoon or ten around too..I thought about 1/2 on the bottom 3-4 feet and then 1" on top...
Thats what I did. Put the hardware cloth around the bottom of my coop and run. I have raccoons and foxes that show keen interest in my chickens

I guess that's actually one of the good things about living smack up against the interstate, practically. Hate the noise but it does keep the predators away! Every chicken I've lost so far I've lost to a cat.

Good morning, Ohioans! I have basques and silkies arriving today!

Just wanted to say hi to everyone! We're up in the Cleveland area with 7 layers: BO, BR, black austrolorp, black ameraucana, blue copper marans, and one goofy blue EE. This is year 1 of chickens for us & we're having a blast.

Hi!! I've got BR and Black austrolorps coming..I hear they're great layers! How are you liking year 1 of chickens? Any advice??

Will do! I've got four that are two weeks old right now, all creamy white. This batch should have blue, black, partridge, buff, and more white as well as a few black dutch bantams :)

I've been looking for some good non-hatchery Australorps. Not that there's anything wrong with hatchery stock! Every bird I've gotten from Meyer's has been sturdy and healthy

. But I'd be starting a breeding line from them, and for that I want the best quality birds possible :) Anyone know who has some? Sunnysideup just discontinued theirs, darn it.

Barreds and BAs should both make excellent layer birds :) I've got a quartet of rocks and they're all 4-6 egg a week layers, depending on the season. They did go through about a six week dry spell while they were molting and I had to give them supplemental light to get them back on schedule, but now they're doing great again :)

Please keep me in mind if you are interested in Silkies or Showgirls! I try to breed as close to SOP as possible and have black, partridge and splash showgirls and silkies. I'm hatching some out now that will be available in the spring. Also, I donate 20% of all bird and egg sales to Heifer International.

I'm located just north of C-bus...Mt. Gilead/Marengo area...
