OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

Got a new Roo today! Speckled Sussex. He's a big boy!

We got into Speckled Sussex because I kept reading how docile and friendly they are and, as I am nearing 43, I like any female that gets better looking with age! Anyway, two of my new Speckled hens attacked him as soon as he came out of the crate. And these girls turn into an angry mob when I run out of treats or God- forbid, no treats at all. They were pecking my boots and pecking my pants. Even went after my diamonds in my wedding rings! My SPPRs have proven to be much more docile but they aren't nearly as inquisitive or alert.

So funny the difference in breeds. After the hostile welcome from the Specks, my 2 RIRs came running up to him begging for some, uh, male attention, and kept at him til the third time was a charm for them both! Redheads! Just kidding! He was one of many roosters before we got him so I'm sure he appreciates the lack of competition. The SPPR's were indifferent to him completely.

If you're going up that way, stop in at the Cabelas store. Pretty impressive if you're in the market for hunting, fishing, or general outdoors stuff. Can't miss it. Right there off 23.

I go to Detroit once a month and always stop in at Cabela's. Their taxadermy is out of this world. So now I can go to a poultry auction and Cabela's all in one shot. Just a little slice of heaven.

I'm hoping to pick up about a dozen Deleware hens and a roo. If not I'll have to get chicks by the end of the month.
