I confess. I am Michigan born and raised. But as a 20+ year Ohio resident, I felt it was incumbent on me to own Buckeye Chickens. I agree that it just seems wrong to live here and not own any.

That never occurred to me. I'm fairly new to the area (okay, 2+ years) and am just starting to get to know the other chicken folks around here. I will check that out.

I really need to break down and do the fairs this year. I like breeding a lot more than I do showing, but they're the best way to show off your wares!

And I didn't know the Ohio residency requirement about owning Buckeyes! I feel as good citizens we should comply and get some! Hubs will be thrilled! LOL

Whee! Did my first two a.m. chick run last night! Mansfield PO called a little after 1 to let me know my chickies had arrived So drove into town in my pjs and mud boots and brought home a box of baby basques! Ten were bouncing off the walls, one had to go in the ICU for a few hours, and one didn't make it, sadly

So I now have thirteen basque chicks ranging from two days to two weeks old (including the two I hatched out here), two eight-week old adolescents, and I should be getting a couple of POL pullets soon, too

Whee, Basques!!!

And my last round of hatchlings are doing VERY well White orps, black and blue silkies, lavender ameraucanas, and a couple of Black Dutch bantams. Oh, and I've got eighteen buckeye eggs in the incubator right now

I just called area TSC re; Tractor Supply Chick Days for NW Ohio ...

Toledo Store - 2/25
Oregon Store - 2/25
Bowling Green Store - sometime between last week of February - First week of March
Wauseon Store - 2 weeks from today, which would put it 2/27

I will closer to those times to verify and re-post.

I found a woman down near Zanesville with absolutely beautiful birds selling Buckeye hatching eggs if anyone's interested -- that's where I got mine Very nice lady!

Oh, and I have SO overdone it on new breeds this year! But I'm very pleased with the assortment and by fall should hopefully be able to offer marraduna basque, lemon cuckoo, white, lavender and crele orpington (I like orpingtons!), coronation sussex, rhodebars, russian orloffs and (hopefully) blue isbar eggs and chicks.

Just wanted to say "hi" and introduce myself....finally. I have been a "lurker" for some time. I live in the Cleveland/Akron area and started with 6 chickens 4 years ago. Over the course of the past 4 years I have lost 3 to predators. (racoons and hawks). I have decided that I want to increase the "family" this year and I have some Pekin ducks incubating in a Brinsea Advanced. It looks like 6/7 are viable on day 5. I only want to keep two. If more survive, I will let you know.
Additionally, I got the CRAZY idea that I NEEDED more chickens....I ordered a "few" to put in my still air incubator.....Figures they sent EXTRAS!!!! I know that the hatch rate in a still air can be slim, but I am determined. I am going to set them tomorrow. I really only want a few. I have 6 Maran eggs, 11 lavender orpington, 6 Bantam blue cochin, and 6 frizzles. AGAIN, I will let you all know if I do well and have extras to share as I really can't handle more than 10 chicks.

On a side note, I have two teenagers, a 51 y.o kid(DH), two BIG dogs, 3 cats AND I am a full time student trying to get my Master's in Health Sciences (Physician Assistant).

Sorry if this is TMI, just wanted to introduce myself and let everyone know that I am truly CRAZY!!!! lol.
