I remember in the fall they were selling turkeys, chicks you name it for like 50 cents so I’m sure they were selling whatever amounts they had left that way to whoever. I think spring is concern for Easter and people buying cute chicks…

Hey everyone. I visited TSC yesterday and the chick minimum was still 6, not 3 like I thought it was gonna be. So this makes me wonder of either Ohio never changed the minimum, or TSC has a corporate rule of their own. Has anyone been to any non-TSC farm stores with chicks? What was the minimum?

I visited a Family Farm and Home the other day and their minimum was also 6. It must be state wide.

Yes, but if you read back in the thread, I posted an article I found that suggested there was a bill that switched it to 3.

Yes, and I can purchase just 3 from Meyer and go pick them up. In fact, I have an order in for 3 chicks for next month. So the rule is a little blurry.

I'm happy they have a minimum in stores because there are dumb people who go buy chicks on Easter with no intention of owning chickens, but I think the minimum of 6 is too many. I live in the city and have a limited amount of chickens I can buy. It's based on property size so I can have more than 6, but some people have properties where they can only have 4. Some suburbs have rules for small amounts of chicks, so it leaves some people in a pickle if they don't know anyone who they can split a chick purchase with.

Yeah I honestly think they don't change the minimum because it keeps city/suburb people from getting chickens, even though they may be allowed to. It just makes it more inconvenient so people just decide against it. Luckily, I stumbled upon BYC and learned about all these hatcheries and other options. If not, who knows what I would have done. But now I'm still stuck driving all the way to Meyer to get 3 chicks when there are plenty of chicks at my local TSC that never sell (because no one in the suburbs needs 6 at a time).

Hello! Does anyone know if Columbus, Ohio allows chickens within city limits? I’ve had 3 hens for over a year now but now I am reading some conflicting information that makes me a little worried.

I am in NW Delaware county, right between Delaware, Marion and Marysville. I am picking up my 6 chicks tomorrow from Ridgeway Hatchery and the kids and I are excited! We are first time chicken owners
