OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

It's beginning to snow over here once more..but what should one expect since its mid January. My ducks have been consistently laying 2 to 3 eggs a day, and my chickens have surprisingly picked up in their production...giving me 3 to 4 eggs a day now.

Took advantage of the cold spell by venturing onto my pond. Thought the top was fully frozen solid, so I wanted to hack away at the cattails while I had the chance. Unfortunately, the ice wasn't thick enough and I fell through up to my chest. Had to run into the house and take a hot bath to defrost myself..hehe
So glad to hear that you are alright. You could have gotten hyperthermia in this cold really easy. One time when I was tubing I was in the front tube and the rest of them accidently shoved me onto a frozen stream that I fell through. We were a long ways to the friends house we were at and I kept my wet clothes on and we drove home. It was sub zero out and I was so cold that I shivered for hours and had my Husband keep piling clothes on top of me in my bed trying to get me to stop shaking. I should have gotten into a hot bath like you did. I was not wanting to get near any more water at the time after I fell in.

I was trained to use snow to help wick some of the water and moisture away from your skin in situations like this, but since the house was only 200 feet away, it was just as easy to run inside. I did, however, notice my body begin to stiffen up as the time progressed. Oh well...on a side note, the surface of the pond is now fully frozen over enough for me to work on. Got half of the cattails cleared out. Was tempted to just burn the rest.

Yes! We are finally warming up!!

It was -8F when I woke up this morning, no school again, Thank You Lord, it is now 4 above which is better. I am finally seeing the ducks start to stir around but I will wait until 2pm when it will be 11 above to go out to feed and water them. Hopefully my spigot will work fine outside. I hope all of your flock is well and that all survived the cold. How cold did it get last night for you? My Wood Ducks got cancelled until next week after I messaged the farm in Tennessee and told them my concerns about sending them this week with the weather patterns going on. I was glad that she had no problem with a delay for them. Have a good day and stay warm.
