OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

Hi neighbor! I'm in Lorain County, like Knobby is(we've actually met and he is the nicest person!) Are you planning on giving your original layers to someone? I've done that with every flock I've had, gave them away when they stopped laying, with full disclosure that they stopped laying. There are a lot of people that will take them and let them live their lives out. I don't because I have mine for eggs but to each their own
Hey, neighbor! I'd consider rehoming them, but I don't know anyone who would take them, I'll have to look into that. Right now, I intend to process them, use the meat for dog food and feed some to the next batch of hens, and use the bones for stocks/bone broth.

Well, at least they won't go to waste. I love making homemade chicken stock, so good

Just ask and if I see your post, I'll offer to take them..hehe. Seriously, if you want to rehome them, I would take them in, knowing that they've stopped their egg production. In return, I will let you know that I do not plan on having them for meals, but letting them live out their natural lives on our mini farm.

Thanks for letting me know! We probably won't be ready to move them until the new chicks are ready to move into the coop, so probably summer. I will message you then to see if you're interested. And it's nice to meet another neighbor!

Lorain County here. Why you wanna cull the original flock? I still have my original hens, and even though they've stopped laying eggs, I've allowed for them to live out their remaining lives with us. I know the feed gets expensive taking care of these "freeloaders" , but we don't mind.
I missed your first message, sorry! They're livestock for us, and their purpose is to feed the family, so once they stop laying, it's time for freezer camp :)

Oh, I just knew you would offer!

OK, just know that I take in basically anything from hens to roosters, and still waiting for a goat and a donkey..hehe
