In process of building a third coop and fixing up the other two. Got weigh-layed early spring...sick Father in law passed away... still in process of going through everything... but we are getting there. Putting up fencing for the garden coop tomorrow! My silkies will greatly appreciate it!

We keep all sorts of eggers, mostly black and red star. Wanting to get some more Americaunas and wanting to get some marans. The silkies are just pets... but mine are such good egg layers. In 2 days we pulled 10 eggs out of a pen with 2 hens!! Go silkies! Oh and we have 2 beagels, 1 goat lawnmower, 4 mouser cats, 5 call ducks(which are for sale by the way)...4 piggies who will taste good this fall

, and thousands of honey bees. We started with our bees last year with a grant.. we have grown to 50 hives this year, and I am getting ready to put in my notice at work and farm fulltime!!!!!!!!!!

cannot wait! 4 kids and I believe that is it. We are a wannabe farm. Becoming self-sufficient one day at a time!

Welcome!!!!! Silkies lay that many eggs a day??? Holy moly!!!! Our full-sized hens only lay 1!

CONGRATS on your bees and being able to quit your day job!! How I envy you. Do you gather the honeycombs and everything yourselves?? I couldn't do that; I'm terrified of bees!

It's wonderful when we can turn our hobbies into paying jobs and actually enjoy what we do - I'm very happy for you!!!

Aliena,
Sounds like a great idea.It would be fun to meet other BYC members.Everyone could bring food and beverages...Let me know what I can do to help, anything. SUNBURY CHICK (old hen) OHIO

Just ordered chicks (Buff Orp, Dominique, Rhode Island, 'easter eggers - swapping one of those for one of my friend's Silver Laced Wyandottes she just got in the mail!) - looks like they won't be arriving until late July - gives me time to work on the coop/run!

Is there anyone here who knows where I can get organic chicken feed relatively locally(central OH)? I have been buying from Ed Snavely (Curly Tail Organic Farm) in Fredericktown, but all of a sudden they have decided to just sell to their long time customers, and myself and some friends of mine have been cut out. It is a real blow, his feed was great, and really reasonably priced too. Is anyone else on here affected? Any suggestions on where to go from here?

Aliena, what kind of feed do you have them order for you?

There are several of us up here affected by this, so if they can get Countryside Naturals or another organic feed and save us the trouble of having to buy a huge amount in bulk they would get a lot of new business from us.

amy,
i just got off the phone with robin! he is looking into getting organic feed stocked he will be calling me back around 5 so ill let you know a size and price asap!
