OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

I'm on the west side of Cleveland in North Olmsted. From what I have seen on localfoodcleveland.org there is a feed store down by Clark. They bag their own scratch in resuable bags, they sell all the major brands of feed too. From what I gather it is $1-$2 more/bag than places like Tractor Supply (of which there is one in Medina, one in the Solon/Macedonia area and one in Amherst). When I get my ladies next month I will hopefully be going there for feed. Haven't totally decided yet. Also I'm not sure how much feed I'm actually going to need since my ladies will be getting kitchen scraps and ranging some.

Is anyone here planning on going to the Poultry Show in Wapakoneta March 3-4?

I'm debating on whether to go or not. We won't be showing but we are in the market to get some more d'anvers.

Thanks,
Roger

This is the first I have heard about the show, but it is about 2.5 hrs from me... so prolly not gonna be able to go. I'm hoping to find something a little closer to me. Does anyone know of anything around the northwest section of Ohio?

Mong77- I am so close to you! I am in Avon. In Grafton, there is a feed store called Town and Country, they also bag their own feed. Am I reading this correctly that you are going to travel about three hours to get the feed? What the heck do they put in it?? I have been going to Town and Country for the past three years, they have everything you could ever need. Also, they have been open forever! All the grain they use in their feed is locally grown and milled, which is a plus. They have several other brands as well as organic, if you were considering going that route. There is also one in North Ridgeville called Worcesters. Although it is considerable closer than Grafton, I have chosen to make the trek because, frankly, Worcester's customer service sucks! Good luck with your chickens!

Onawhim- Are you thinking more towards Toledo area?? I know there is an auction in Mt. Hope and in Rogers. Rogers is no where near Northwest but who knows, maybe someone else will see it

. Anyway, Mt. Hope is more in central OH. North of Columbus and it is quite a good time.

Chick-chick mommy- Neither of these is strictly poultry and you would be surprised at some of the sights to be seen! I have seen zebras, baby pigs in pack n plays, ostriches. They also have a lot of supplies and things, sort of like a flea market for only farm goods. I would recommend going at least once if only for fun. Keep in mind, however, that this is not a collection of people that have animals for pampering purposes. This is about as basic "farm" as your going to get. I remember being very put off the first time I went because I wasn't used to the idea of farming for necessity. I was more naive and thought everyone just had a few chicks in the backyard and spent all the time in the world making four-room coops and planting flowers around them to make them pretty and appealing. Eye-opening!

I'll be going to the show in Wapakoneta. I haven't been to a show since Dec. 3, so I think I am in withdrawal. I have never shown my birds, but I usually buy birds. I think I have enough birds now, so probably will just go to look around.

Hello every one, I was wanting to see if anyone might be interested in purchasing some Porcelain D'Uccles, They are started chicks and I have a few cockerels and pullets these chicks are still young. Hatch dates are Dec 1st for the first set and the second set hatched on Dec 30. The mother is a Porcelain and the father a Mille Fleur with white spangles and very little black. (He will also be one of the ones I am considering selling) I haven't had a very good opportunity to get a good look at the Mille's to see which of the kids will stay or be sold. PM me if interested. Thank You, Michele

If you call Meyer and check to see what extras they have around 10am in the mornings, they may just have extra Salmon Favorelles. I had called on monday, and the lady had those as extras. I wish I had known you were looking for them.

Newbie here in central Ohio, near Newark, just beginning this whole process of becoming a chicken farmer,

My fiance isn't so impressed, he raised chickens as a kid with his parents, and he says I have no idea what I am in for, but I am so excited!! I am recently enrolled in the craigslist anonymous club: looking for chicken coop building materials for free... although it has really paid off! I will be placing my order for chicks soon from Myer, meats and layers, but am really looking for some Salmon Faverolle chicks before June... anyone know where i can get them?
