So my first and only hatchling :( has a funny looking butt. Is this normal? it was dragging egg material and shell but that dried and fell off and this is left........

It's an extruded navel. Leave it alone and there is a good chance it will finish closing the abdomen. If you have neosporin without pain reliever, you can gently swab a bit on to keep it moist and clean.

x2. I'd put an antibotic ointment on it and just keep an eye on him in the brooder and make sure the other's don't notice and peck at it.

Thanks :) I put neosporin on it. How often should i do that? It's by itself in the brooder. It was the only one that hatched. I had one rocking but i think the chick turned it and it never hatched. i opened it this morning because i didn't hear it chirp anymore and it didn't make it :(

As the chick uses the water and yolk it took in before hatching, the abdomen will be less swollen and there will be room for the innards to finish drawing in. You may not need to reapply, but if it is still extruded in 8 hours, do reapply.

Chicks are on day 24 and havnt hatched! I thought I heard chirping but there has been no movement should I candle them? On day 18 I cancled one and I could see a heart beat.

Ok. So it's a at later and the belly is down but the innards have not drawn in :( she looks otherwise healthy..... Will she be ok??
