Ok, Here I go Again! (Update, I have Chicks)

the way hatcheries do it is called Dry Incubating only put 1 tablespoon of water every 4 days hatching rates will go up 90%

I think I am just too tender hearted for incubating eggs. I am just going to keep what I have and try to find someone closer to me if I decide to get anymore. I really want to get more eggs and try again, but how do you get past the grief? I feel so bad throwing those little chicks away or having them die in my hands. It just tears me up. I guess you sort of get use to it some, but I don't know. Anyway, thanks for all your help and advice and I am just happy these guys are doing well.

Don't feel so bad, Marie. You did your best and you got 3 little ones to show for it. It's hard to hatch shipping eggs - you just never know what kind of treatment they have gotten at the hands of the Post Office. Even if they don't appear to have cracks, etc, they can still be scrambled on the inside from being tossed around and dropped down chutes, etc.

Maybe you'll get the hatching bug again soon, so just put your bator away and concentrate on your chicks for now.

Congrats on your new little ones. Enjoy them 'cause next week they'll already have feathers and not be such fuzzy butts anymore!!!!

Thanks Lori. That is very sweet. You are probably right, at some point I will probably get the bug again. But hopefully I will have some broody hens to hatch some for me and maybe that would work out better. I would at least not feel so responsible? These chicks were fully formed and moving on day 18 and then never hatched. So I don't know what happened. Jaynie said it may be that this is the first year of laying for this hen and the eggs are still rather small and don't really have a large end and small end. She had a couple that were turned wrong in the shell. So that could have been part of the problem. Anyway, thanks again for the support. I am very appreciative of the three I have. They are very healthy so far. Eating and drinking and doing great. And yes, they will be grown before I know it. Thanks again to everyone.

Marie
