Would it be safe to put some sandbox sand from my children's sand box on the bottom of their temporary home with the wood shavings and would that be the same as grit ?

I thought this last year when I was a newbie. I thought they were having a seizure! Scared me to death. Then I kept reading here to find it was indeed just pine shaving baths. Have fun with your chicks. There is so much to learn.
