I kept ending up with nine, or a nine-like number... like 63, which shares the same gift name.... what numbers did y'all start with that DIDN'T?

You figured it out

any number you pick after you do their math will be a number 9 or a total of 9. example 63...6+3=9, 72...7+2=9 and so on. if you look at the boxes and find the numbers that will total 9 you will notice they are all the same gift. If she did not pick your gift you did your math wrong.

In the one I just saw all of the following said Pen and Pencil Set

11-2=9
22-4=18
33-6=27
44-8=36
55-10=45
66-12=54
77-14=63
88-16=72
99-18=81

90 and 99 don't work with a two digit start number, just on the charge for deco

And what do you know she guessed Pen and Pencil Set...

Guessing if you hunted enough you'd find a similar pattern for other numbers.

Edit... just ran through it ten times... and every time she guessed whatever was on the 9 (or multiple of nine)... so, does adding the two digits and then subtracting it from the whole ALWAYS result in a 9 then?

12.... minus 3 equals... nine...

27... minus 9 equals... eighteen...

69... minus 15 equals... forty five...

Seems to be the solution...
