After losing a few hens and finding feathers scattered all over the place and no bodies, my trail cam picked up a fox. I would like to trap it and get rid of it....not only because of the chickens but we have small dogs we let out in the evenings to go potty. What is the best method to rid my property of a fox?

You can probably borrow a live trap from local humane society or animal control or fish and game. Bait it with KFC chicken and you'll make short work of your project. Then you can call fish and game or animal control to dispose of it.

A live trap is the best idea. I’ve had lots of problems with raccoons, and I’ve been able to solve them all with some cat food and a live trap. Best of luck!:wee

Confine your birds and guard that little dog! You can shoot that fox, or trap and shoot it, although it's very difficult to get a fox into a live trap!
It's illegal to relocate them, so don't trap if you won't kill!
Electric fencing is very effective in keeping ground predators at bay! See Howard E' posts, and Premier1supplies.com is a great resource.

We had a sick mangy fox kill ten nice hens one afternoon a few years ago, seen by a nearby workman. (Who did nothing! ) We couldn't get him into a trap, or get a clean shot at him when he returned almost daily, but a neighbor was able to get him a few days later.
I visited everyone within a half mile who had birds, and my nearest neighbors, and alerting them payed off! Nobody else lost birds, and it worked out.

Fox are pretty cagey little critter ... not saying you can't catch one in a live trap by the odds are slim . You would most likely have better luck with traditional leg hold traps .Most all modern leg holds have what they call "offset "jaws which don't break the animals legs or cut off circulation . Might want to ask around and see if there is an experienced trapper in your area , it takes some know how to consistently trap fox and specially coyotes.

The biggest problem with live traps is ya usually end up catching possums or coons ! Possums are dumber then a box of rocks and walk in live traps blindly , coons just can't help themselves they are use to raiding trash cans and such
