Your chick order was originally screwed up, half your chicks aren't even there, the other half is who knows what breed, 4 dead babies, and they are making you wait 2 months for replacements, and fixing your order? I think that's ridiculous, and I kinda sent a nasty letter, but not really mean or anything and now I'm sorry I didn't throw a huge fit because the more I think about it the more it makes me angry. So what would you all do Would you be pissy? Kim

I would be VERY upset. I think if you had a certain breed you wanted that waiting 2 months may be the only option. I would ask for a discount of some sort but I would also make sure that I read their policy on dead chicks.

Some places you have to check wether or not you will accept replacement breeds, do you remember doing this? Also, sometimes with animals things don't go the way we plan and want, incubators go out, preditor gets in pen, roosters are infertile. And on the replacements, it takes 3 weeks to replace, minimum, and they have orders to fill (if they start bumping them to replace it would be a nightmare). Now hopefully they sent you an email or gave you a call to explain to you, offered a rebate or something.

I would be hella mad. I got the same run around and I feel for you. A local farmer/chicken person I dn't even know what to call them. They promised silkies on their website. I called and the guy was all sweet talking me and promising me silkies. Conversation -
me - hi I was calling to see if you have any chicks available?
idiot - ha ha ha, do you want blondes, brunettes or redheads
me - ummm I was hoping you have some silkies available?
idiot - oh well I sure do and I want you to have them, they're hatching as we speak, call before you head out, I want you to have the best pick. You sure do have a pretty name...

The next morning I called and it was more like
idiot - ummmm well my wife didn't know about our conversation (no kidding perv!) and she sold all of them

I hope you have better luck getting this remedied. They can only give you what they have though to be fair.

I agree with Dutch. When it comes to producing living creatures, things can go wrong, and things take time when correcting things that go wrong. Normally, substitutions should only be made if you checked that option. I was upset that I hadn't received TWO of the breeds I'd asked for in this year's order, but I had allowed for substitutions (I just didn't expect TWO breeds not to be available).
And although I would be VERY upset at finding dead chicks, we all know that can happen when it comes to shipping. It can happen even when shipping isn't involved, although not as often.
I do think hatcheries should do a better job of informing customers when subs. are made. And I certainly understand that between dead chicks and substitutions, it would be a frustrating and disappointing experience/day.

Everybody knows Hatcheries often mess up orders, yeah Ok all the time, so why do people get so irritated when it happens to them. I think the simple fix is buy real chickens from real breeders in your area, Plus this is always a very busy time for Hatcheries and they get overwhelmed very easily.

Who did you order from? I would be very mad as well. You have to think tho if they where short on chicks that hatched of what you ordered. Would you rather get the chicks you ordered later on, or chicks that you didn't even order or want that where extras? If they sent the rest of your chicks out right away then someone else would be in your position, because they would be short on chicks. I am sorry you have to go thru this tho

It is always frustrating, I do think they should have called or emailed you to let know they where behind on orders.

There is no excuse for bad service and it should not be tolerated from any business, hatchery or otherwise.Selling and shipping chicks is their livelihood,if they get overwhelmed so easily, they should not be in business. And I would really love to find a breeder in my area so I don't have to buy from feed stores and in turn from hatcheries.

I think your right, if they can't handle the heat well you know the addage. I just think that most of their business is run on projecting orders and when they get more orders or a hatch comes in under production, the hatchery can do nothing but throw up their arms in frustration or the lack there of. I do think it's a pity there are not more professional breeders to handle some of this need.

Well I'm a little cooled off this morning,
But let me run this down since day 1 so everyone gets why I'm so MAD . I ordered my chicks Feb. 17th, 2011. order paid and scheduled within a few days. SO far no problems.
Everything was due to ship March 23rd, then March 19th I get an email stating my Mottled Ancona's are sold out so they refunded my money, I wrote oh no you don't why did you not call me so I could get 5 other chicks, ok the run around for 3 days finally got a hold of a worker named Melsissa she added the 5 Speckled sussex on them for the mix up, Order shipped Wed. the 23rd got here Fri. the 25th.
I was actually thinking they would be here Thursday because they are right here in Wisconsin 40 miles from me, well I find out later they get chicks shipped from all over, and deal with several hatcheries, so ok no problem, but now... I have 3 Speckled Sussex DOA's in my order and 1 sick SS who dies the next day no matter how hard I tried to keep her alive, I have No Delawares , no barred rocks, and only 1 speckled sussex alive, because my replacement 5 for the Ancona's didn't come either, only 3 assorted wyandottes that I see, but find out later maybe the fuzzy white chicks with gray saddles are Columbian Wyandottes, so ok I'm thinkin they will fix it 100% live guarantee. and screwed up order, I called 3 times to finnally get it straightened out and filled out the form online for the 4 dead chicks.
At this point I'm thinking this isn't even my order because I have 11 fuzzy yellow chicks I should have had only my 5 BO that are yellow and my 5 Dels, but they didn't ship because they had a bad hatch I found out later, so I say ok whatever their all cute so next months hatch should be around April 15 to 25th and the Guy says a month so ok a month to fix it, I'm fine with that. Then last night I get another email, my order is to ship May 25th.....2 months.........ggggggggggggggrrrrrrrrr. I also told Melissa that should the Dels. fail to hatch or any other problems just send me 5 EE's instead because I want the rest of my chicks asap. They are going in 1 coop together I don't want them fighting because some are so much older than others.
So yes I'm pretty mad and I do understand that things at this time of year can get messy, but come on this has been a disaster since almost day 1, they also didn't send the Thermometer I ordered, so I had to go out and buy another of those too, but that was the least of my problems.
I won't list the Hatchery yet because if they fix it I'll shut up , but if they keep jerking my chain, I'm gonna do more than just have a fit, I'm gonna post their name everywhere, and let everyone know how they do business, and not to deal with them.
I think there must be a better way to get this chicks in the mail thing right with less hassles, another lady posted on here that her order was a nightmare as well, found out through a PM it's the same hatchery. She is also in Wi. I think or maybe MN, close to though. So what now stew and worry some more, waiting until May to get the rest of my order, and I'll have 42 chicks instead of the 30 I originally ordered, because I bought 3 black sexlinks, and 3 EE's at TSC, to replace the 4 dead SS, plus my mystery white chicks, and the way the yellow and gray saddled chicks are feathering I don't think they are CW anymore either have no clue what they are???? I'm wishing now I would have just bought all my chicks from TSC.
