Ok so how mad would you be if ?

Oh I know it, I have read so many many threads on trying to get them to get along, I was/am still quite miffed about it. Purely poultry is doing all they can to fix it, but there supplier, cackle cackle, can't apparently ship my babies until 5/25, my 7 week old mystery chicks have finally been identified though thanks to the super nice lady Melissa at PP, they are White Wyandottes, and White Rocks, the rocks were suppose to be barred rocks apparently the hatchery doesn't know the difference between white and barred, wonder what I would have gotten had I ordered Partridge Rocks....hmmmmmmmm maybe Colombian Rocks..........LOL
I'm still very upset with all the mess ups on this order, but P.P. has been good about trying to fix it, though because they deal with another hatchery there's nothing much they can do to fix the mess, except apologize 500 tx which they have done, plus they added the 5 speckled sussex free because they had already refunded my money for the canceled Ancona's, and they didn't charge me anything extra for reshipping with extra chicks. I don't hold a grudge against Tyler or PP, but I guarantee I will never EVER order from Cackle, if I live to be 1000 years old
I'm also gonna be very very mad if I have alot of problems integrating these new babies to my coop when they are big enough, although thanks to our weather up here I now own a nice 10x 10 x 6 dog kennel that I can put adjacent to the run to let them see each other for awhile before actually trying to put them together, I hope this helps the situation.
I will also have many more roo's to add to the freezer because they sent all the white chicks, which 5 of the seven are roo's I have 1 WW hen and 1 WR hen the rest crow............. and like someone is strangling them at that..its funny and I love my chickens no matter if I didn't order them they are kinda cute for plane white birds.

I think the simple fix is buy real chickens from real breeders in your area

Not that simple for all of us. I have to agree with MofarmGirl:
...its not always likely that anyone near you has the breed you want

Agreed...
I looked at driving out to meet one breeder for just one of the breeds I wanted, but I realized that the cost of gas was more than twice the cost of having every breed I wanted shipped express from the hatchery I chose!
Not to mention that it's very hard (understandably) to find sexed chicks from local breeders too, which is very important to many people raising small, backyard flocks. I know that getting sexed chicks is no guarantee; it's not 100% accurate, but it's more acceptable for some than straight run.

Also it worries me, on a bio-security level, to bring in chicks from several different breeders in order to start a flock.

OP, I'm sorry you have had such a bad experience.

I understand your frustration with the hatchery. I just recently had a problem with Central hatchery. I placed a order in Early March for 50 Cornish X st run and 50 RIR pullets. They were due to ship April 6th. Well I sent my money via check USPS and they said they never received it. They did not mail my order. I call my bank and they said yes that check has cleared. So I call them again and they said they will send it out the following week. I waited until saturday and never received a call from the post office. So I called back again. By now its almost the end of april. I asked what the problem was and he said the order didn't ship again. I told him that if a business can't fulfill its orders they need to contact the people(customers) that it involves. He just kind of blew that off and said yeah ok. I asked for a refund on my order on 4-25 and it is now May 13 and I have yet to receive it. It is very frustrating when things like this happen. I have used other hatcheries before and they have been great! This just makes me never want to use them. I understand that there are mix ups but all a customer needs is a call to know what's going on. I hope you get you situation gets resolved.

I agree as well,

A local breeder here is getting 4.50 for a st run day old chick. They are over an hour away and I would use more gas and the price is much higher. What I'm saying is most people who have chickens in there backyard just to get fresh eggs and for a hobby don't need breeder quality birds. They want a hen that will a few eggs a week to have a good personality and to be healthy. All hatcheries are NPIP and are typhoid clean. A guy that you find on craigslist who states that he a breeder could have major health problems with his chickens. People (me included) fell safer buying from a known hatchery for the health security. Good luck with resolving your issue,

Nate

They have solved my return problem. I received a check from them for the amount I paid and plus 44 cents for my stamp I used to mail my payment. I due plan to use them in the future for my cornish x birds. Thanks.

IF there is a supervisor or higher-up person than the one that answers the phone when you call, talk to them. I have learned to never talk to a person who answers the phone about a problem, because they usually don't have the authority or power to solve anything. Good Luck...I would be totally ticked off!

Well my order is fixed they sent me my 10 speckled sussex plus 1 extra, my 5 barred rocks, and 5 delawates, got them today instead of tomorrow too but even the chicks can't cheer me up today, it's been a day from h e double toothpicks around here........grrrrrrrrrrr but wanted to let everyone know they had arrived all alive this time, 2 months late but better late than never, now I just have to hope everyone makes it. Ty all for posting. Kim
Will post picks when I have time of the new babies in the chicks thread.

Hi I am new here, my first order of chicks arrived on Feb 8th it was an order of 50. We got them from Mcmurry Hatchery. We had bought 25 rainbow layers and 25 ornimental. We lost 14 in 48 hrs it was my fault for ordering so early in the year I think they got cold from the travel. But the order was right and the rest of the flock is doing great. What I am getting at is I called them and let them know we had lost 14 they asked a couple of questions on how they were kept everything was in order on my end. They right off the bat offered to replace them, offered a credit or refund my money for the ones I had lost. I told them that I would like to just have a refund the next day the money was back in my account for the lost chicks.
Me and a friend down the road placed another order of 25 rainbow layers and 10 Sultans (which is what I wanted) I am raising them so he can get his coop and yard finished. They all arived in good shape we lost 3 out of an order of 40. Once again I called them and told them what I had lost in 48hrs they asked the same questions as before and once again refunded my money right away. I know I have only delt with Mcmurry twice now but so far they have been great to deal with I just wish they were'nt so far away. We have another order coming in of feather footed which I like next month and I will exspect the same thing from them. Oh yea out of the order of the first 50, we had ordered all hens and got one roo I think that is pretty good. He is a happy roo right now.

I orderedmy first chicks ever from Meyer Hatchery in Ohio since they are fairly close (4-5 hours) and I didn't want my chicks to be in the mail system long. We had to wait a month longer than we had planned for, but all my chicks plus an extra bonus chick arrived safely within 1 day safely and all are healthy at 6 1/2 weeks. I would order from them again. Only 1 out of 26 is appearing to be the opposite sex we ordered so I think that is a good percentage.
