OOhhhh--ouch. Don't look at those retirement funds, it's just depressing. Welcome to the funny farm- it may or may not be economical, but it sure is fun!

I'm so sorry to hear that. We're 29 now and I had to look because we borrowed / took $10k out earlier this year (couldn't miss out on buying a house with so many foreclosures out there for us poor folk) but took a HARD hit after that withdraw.

Self sufficient is the way to go. No one is going to come to our rescue... not the government, not big business and surely not the people who can't afford to make their own way. Its up to us and our family and neighbors to survive.

Have you chosen your chickens yet? Got some coop plans? Would love to hear your thoughts.

Hey don't worry about it, you still have 30 years to make it back:>) And as much as it looks really bad now...there's going to be some really really cheap stocks in the future

I am SO with you on this one! I "retired" at about 48 (55 now), and just can't bring myself to look at my brokerage statements. To make it worse? I retired from a savings and loan that was eventually bought out by WaMu which was just taken over by the government and sold at a fire sale price to Chase. I'm hoping my pension funds are still there. I really don't want to be working when I'm 70!

When I saw whole chickens selling for about $10 at the store yesterday I decided that it's time to get over my queesiness and raise some meat birds.

Next time that statement comes in, use it to light a wood fire!

Amen to that!

Even the wife is starting to come around on the chicken thing. Well if we lose the house the wife and I and the chickens can live in the RV

Converting part of an existing shed into coop. had my handyman clear the blackberries and stuff on the side where the run will go. Have existing shelving inside shed I will convert to nest boxes. Just the expense of the run I have to come up with
