OK.. This is when I go NUTS!!!!

I had a really bad hatch last time... But had to try again.... I have one out crawling all over and bumping the other eggs. The humidity is 65% but the temp has risen a little 102.9.... I know your not supposed to open the bator. So I guess my question is... How long is safe for them to stay in the bator after they hatch.. And should I freak out over the temp or just leave it alone???

I know everyone says not to open the bator due to humidity, but I like to be involved and opened it a number of times. I just kept lots of water in there, I don't have a humidity reader either. I had 15 out of 18 eggs hatch. 2 weren't fertile, and the other died in the second week.

Soo... Am I supposed to leave the little guy in there until they all hatch??? Today is day 20, it could be 2 more days. Is that safe for him? I'm trying to do it right and not open the bator..???

Hi! The chicks can live 3 days (and beyond) on the yolk they absorbed just prior to hatch.
Unless it is an emergency situation, I leave them all in the hatcher til the hatch is done.
The temp spike is normal (here at least).

Personally, I do not leave a chick in the incubator longer than 24 hours. I like to get them into the brooder, and get some water into them. I open the bator and quickly remove them all, at the same time, if one has been in there for 24 hours. Of course, any that are still wet (not fluffed up) I do not remove.

That is just how I do it. However, I understand they would be fine in there, up to 3 days.

3 days does seem long to me... I just don't want to pull him out all alone.. Oh believe me, I am watching this thing like crazy!! Surely a couple more will hatch overnight!! There are 29 eggs and they all looked excellent day 18!!!!!

I use the Brinsea with the humidity module and the temp and humidity stabilize with a couple of minutes after opening it. I leave my chicks in until they are dried and fluffed out and making pests of themselves, then I take them out. The Brinsea is small for hatching and the ceiling is low so that's why I do it this way. If I had a styrofoam bator I would leave it closed as much as possible for the other eggs sake. Plus, even with the Brinsea I don't open it while another egg is zipping or hatching. That's just how we roll!
