Goats get along great with horses, as long as the horse is gentle. I wouldn't get just one goat, they wouldn't be happy, and two are just as easy to care for. I had to buy bottle babies last year, so I was feeding from March till October, it was awful! Although the babies are much friendlier that way, it is kinder to leave them with their mom, because they will get attention 24/7 where as you can't be there that often. Bottle babies are also more likely to die, so I can't recommend it, I only did it because that was the only way the owners would sell them. They can make more money with less effort that way.

Henriettahen, since you like Pygmies, these are pics of my caramel doe and buck from last year. They were about two weeks old in the pictures. Also my Nubians, that range from 1 day old to 5 days. There is a huge size difference between Pygmies and Nubians!

I'll admit you have swayed us to think about goats...so it's gonna be all your fault if we get any someday!!!

Birdgardengal, I've searched the Internet to find breeders, I also check the nickel add every week. Nigerian Dwarf goats are harder to find, and more expensive in this area. The Pygmies are the most popular, and it's hardest to find registered Nubians, so I only have non-registered ones. I think goats are one of the easier farm animals to take care of. You can even keep them in a small back yard with your dog! I won't suggest a buck unless you want to breed, have him wethered and he'll be a better pet. The bucks stink a lot.

Birdgardengal, I just saw your from Washington! If your interested in goats, here is where I got a few of mine.

http://www.lordshillfarm.com/ She has Pygmies, and can answer any of your questions, she's the most knowelegable goat person I know. She has great prices, here goats give brith twice a year, last year I got my babies in June.

http://rubycreek.topcities.com/ She has Pygmies and Nigerians, she is very nice! She has some babies right now. I'm hopefully buying Pipi Longstockings

http://www.ctcfarm.com/goats.html?4ae082c0 She has a lot of high quality Nigerians and just a few Pygmies, but her prices will make you go broke! She has babies right now.

If you want to know where I got my Nubians, contact me privately and I'll send you her phone # she should have unregistered babies this March, but they have to be bottle fed. She has the cheapest goats. She is from Waterville, her daughter is from Ephrata and has unregistered Nigerians, also cheap.
