Was the goose used to being around other geese at his previous home? I had an embden gander that was a lone hatchling and i didn't have any adult geese to raise him nor did I have any ducklings to put with him at the time. I did have a gosling that was a little older, though she was a good 4 times bigger than he was. He was okay around her (when he went outside) except that she thought she was a duck (another lone hatchling). The embden eventually became enamored with my son's wagon, going so far as to 'protect' it from anyone and everything. If I wanted him to go to the pond, all I had to do was pull that wagon down there. I even had to partially submerge the wagon in the water the first few times to get him to go in.
All that was last year. This year I got 2 more adult embdens. 'Baby' embden was about 9 months old when these others came here, and he just never integrated with them. I seriously think he thought he was a wagon...
So anyway, maybe your goose (gander) is not used to being around other geese? Maybe he is used to dogs, so he is comfortable with the dog? I'd pen him and the goose together where she is the only 'company' that he gets until he realizes that THIS is where he belongs! Good luck!
