Starting to suspect more just today that darker chick is a rooster, *sigh*. I don’t care, but hoping the neighbors don’t either (we live in the country but neighbors are relatively close…)

I’m in Hawai’i, found lighter chick on side of road at about a week old, darker chick was found right about the same time, same age, about 20 miles away by another good Samaritan and we found each other and put the chickies together for companionship (she had a lot on her plate so I took them!).

Darker chick looks mostly like ‘wild Hawai’i chicken’, but does anyone have an idea of what the lighter one is crossed with? Her (hoping her!) comb is very different and her feathers are much finer/narrower…

Wild hens here *do* have red combs, and I don’t see any iridescent feathers on the darker one yet, but I’m resigned to my fate either way, lol—they do make an adorable pair.

The lighter one looks like a typical wild mutt too. Her feathers are beautiful. Rose combs didn't seem too uncommon with the wild chickens I saw when I visited Hawaii (she has a rose comb, the "flat" comb version) and neither did light patterns.
