My Coop
My Coop
I have 35 chickens
What size should my run be? And what size should my coop be? The smallest that’s suitable ?

All this is my opinion, but run size and coop should be as big as possible.... chickens are very happy when they can roam around, even caged, if the area has varied terrain, trees, plants/grass, bamboo, etc... they do like to be "cooped" up though at night , so your coop needs to be large enough where 35 hens can move around and not be piled on top of one another. if the coop or run is small you'll see negative behaviors like pecking, loss of feathers, bullying...less eggs.

My coop area is a two room condo , I’m pretty sure that is fine
It’s my run that feels small to me
I want to add on but finances don’t allow at this time. I keep having the urge to open up the door and do a free ranging deal, but I’m to scared to . It’s stray dogs that scare me the most , so I can’t do that at this time either.

Ok I’m ok I guess If I measured right or did this right my run is 459 square foot

then my two room coop is 72 square foot
And 167 square foot

And my duck is 159 square foot run
For four ducks

yea i can understand i live in Western NC in the mountains and there are so many predators around Im afraid to let my chickens out also. I've lost a few to Hawks already and they were in the run with netting on top ! ugh. 1 4ft hole and the hawk saw it and waited till my d'uccle (who cried a lot when she was laying) got up under the hole then swoop....no more chicken.
