ok where are my computer peeps?

Whatever you use, DO NOT USE VISTA! Our shop has seen too many computers come in with machines that are totally screwed up from Vista. Not only does a lot of software not work with it yet, but there hasn't even been a Service pack released yet to fix all the bugs in the system. It's also not compatable with many XP or older devices, video cards, etc. If you still have XP, stick with that. Vista is nothing but a big white elephant at this point.

I have vista and xp at home. Vista is fine for business stuff, but be advised to really make it "move" (be responsive) you need in the lines of a 3ghz processor and 2gb or RAM. I'd say that is the MINIMUM for system requirements.

Vista is ok, you just have to know where to disable all the crap (allow?). But specifically since the original post was about Gaming, stick with XP. More games run on it, but I imagine in the next year or two, M$ will stop production of patches for XP. And it will become a "unsupported" product just as 95/98/ME/NT/2000 have become.

If you wanna know what the best bang for your buck as to hardware, check out http://www.tomshardware.com lots of info there.

I forgot to mention that the hardware that comes with a Vista machine is proprietary, meaning that you cannot put XP on a machine designed for Vista. That's been a real big complaint for people who have bought new machines, discovered they want XP back, and find they cannot put their copy of it on there.

Not true, nope not at all. Now, the people who buy the "Vista Certified" machines may not have the right drivers for XP on hand but they are out on the web.

Not available and not knowing where to find them are two different things.

In other words, they're n00bs and they have no clue what they are doing.

Have you considered using a Mac? Most professional graphic artist use them, b/c they can have the capability to hold alot of memoery for big graphics. When you mentioned you had huge graphics, I just thought I'd throw it in the mix.

Not entirely true. The multimedia functions of the Mac that are "superior" to a PC is the software. The software that for a time was only written for the Mac. These days Macs ARE PC's they just have an apple sticker on them and run Apples version of Linux. And most major multimedia companies are writing software for both the Mac and the PC. (Photoshop, Premier, Quark, etc etc) The distinction between the two are getting smaller and smaller.
