Ok, Who else watches 50 ducks in a Hot tub on Youtube?

can you report them to youtube?

Oh, they won't do anything. I've been straight up stalked on that site before and Google won't do anything but "take a report and investigate". Best I can do is block whomever comes onto my channel. So far I've had to ban 3.

What a mess this has turned into. My concern for his animals has somehow resulted in this. I tried to be polite, maybe I worded things too strongly, maybe he felt offended 'cuz up until now I was one of his biggest supporters. But int he end it's the duckies that lose ;;

Sadly, all Mat shares is misinformation...and a lot of suffering for his poor duckies.
really

That guy needs help! He's like some kind of physco, you dont just let your ducks to suffer the way he does.

And im not a fan of foxes or cyots either but the way he acts when he kills something is inhumane

if he was in the USA he could be arrested for cruelty and animal abuse for what he does to his ducks and the conditions they live in!!

Why would you say that? Whats wrong with the conditions they are in?

They're overcrowded, for one. I've seen him go from 100 to 400 birds in the same cramped conditions when his pens really can only handle a fraction of that number. He also ignores basic care, like niacin supplements, calcium supplements, and protection from cold. So you see a LOT of videos where he showcases frostbitten birds, suffering birds, birds laying shell-less eggs and then developing limb join problems (gee, wonder why), and angel wing. Although to his credit he DOES take some of the worst cases to the vet, he'll often stop treatment before given the OK to and the bird will suffer all the more for it (like Mrs. Icecovy).

He also refuses to heed anyone's advice, even if they're animal care professionals. I told him he needed to up the niacin and calcium in their diets and he lost it on me. He's a stubborn, ignorant old man who not only refuses advice, but will actively do the opposite just out of spite.

He also illegally hunts endangered animals. In Canada it is illegal to cull river otters, yet he shot one and hung it in a tree. It's not illegal to kill foxes (if you have trapper's license anyhow, which he's never said he has) but he's killed several predators and left them to rot hanging in that same stupid tree, filming and enjoying every disgusting minute of the grotesque decomp process. Which is the WORST thing you can do if you're trying to protect your flock; for one, all the smell does is attract more predators; and two, the bacteria and insects that thrive on carrion can be potentially deadly to a bird!

Per Canadian law you do not need any permits to hunt animals that are threatening your crops or livestock. You cannot simply see a fox and shoot it, however if you have been losing livestock you can kill it.

While I agree the birds are not kept in the best conditions, it is way better than any of the chicken farms around me. They all follow their local laws which are usually less than 1 square foot per bird. Minimal fresh air and they clean out the barns only when they cull, that's every 6-8 weeks. For a farmer trying to make money non-organically he is better than many on space and conditions. The ducks do get to free range in his yard, the swamp and on the lake fairly often.

Yes Mat has to do better on conditions and feed. Yes he has had some issue with frostbite, however he showcases the issues not the good. Out of over 700 birds this last year he had 10 or so frostbite cases. While I would prefer none, that is still around 1% of his birds. He learned from it and made changes to the barn, how long he lets the birds out on cold days and when it's too cold to let them out.

I think he's worth watching as I do learn from him. Some of it is what to do and some of it is what not to do. I actually enjoyed seeing how something decomposes, but I'm pretty scientific on things. When I found one of my guineas had hit a tree in the woods I let nature take it's course and checked back from time to time to see where it was at. He wasn't close to the coop or my house. If he was I would have moved him.

I watched one of his culling days so that I could witness what was involved. Reading and seeing are two different things to me. After reading I thought I could do it. After watching I know I never will be able to and will not watch again (I even had nightmares about culling my ducks). But I learned what was involved and what it truly looks like.

I say give him a whirl and decide on your own what you think of him.

It's not the culling I take offense with, it's the fact that he claims to love his birds and yet refuses to take any measures to improve their quality of life. He admits he has too many birds, but will still hatch exponentially more and more and more each year.
