Ahhhh, and so it begins!

I like your set up, too. GREAT repurposing job! If you haven't thought of those plastic playhouses before, here's a picture of one I bought off CraigsList to make into a "grow out" coop.

I want to find some more of them and make a whole VILLAGE of 'em in my back yard.... But it's already my fourth "coop" - and two hens are visiting it to lay their eggs in the Booda I put in there as a nest box. The "growing out" girls who sleep in it every night haven't yet started to lay!

Very creative!

I have to agree with the predator thing. Spartacus certainly looks like he can handle a raccoon (or two!) but does Spartacus live out in the yard 24/7? If not, a predator can and will come in at any time of day. I had a Doberman, and now have an ex-military Belgian Malinois, both could dispatch a raccoon in minutes but both are house dogs that spend the night with us. Those raccoons are smart, sneaky and patient killers...

The play house is just too cute!! When I was first thinking of getting chickens I looked at the play houses at some of the Toy Stores... Have a whole village of them would be great!!
