It is easier with a couple people if you have to catch him during the day. Back into a corner where you have a dog crate with an open door waiting.....have your helpers work together to herd him into it.
Day or night, if i can get them into the run or into the coop and shut the door, then i can corner them. A large leaf rake is sometimes helpful to get them into the enclosure, such as the coop. Food is also a nice distraction so they don't notice you're trying to catch them.
But if i have the option, i'll do it at night too.
Most of mine I just send my sister out to catch. She is 11 so everything is like her pet most of them ride on her shoulders and everything else, but I do have the occasional crazy and I use a net to catch them its quick, easy, and has minimal stress
Ours always roosts in our window seal. We just grab him when he goes up for the night. If he's lively I hold both feet with one hand and he doesn't flop around. If its day time I corner him up against something tall. It's quite an ordeal getting him though.
