The way that I see things, is to be happy right now. There will ALWAYS be someone richer, thinner, prettier, healthier, more successful, etc. than me. And there will ALWAYS be someone less fortunate, heavier, less healthy, not as nice looking, and not as successful, etc. as me. I am right where I've put myself.

At the moment, it happens to be living in a workshop with temporary facilities and bedroom. Not so glamorous!

You WILL have your place...when it is right for you.

We use a gas powered golf cart and mini-atv's to get around...fun times on the funny farm here!

[ Not to mention our 2 German Shorthaired Pointers that are dying to get there chompers on our girls. If any of you can give me any advice on getting the dogs accustomed to the chickens, feel free to let me know. So far, we've brought the dogs to the run a few times per day to sniff around and see what the new commotion is all about. As soon as one of them barks or gets too focused on the chickens, we reprimand them. I've been saying "NO! Chickens" to the dogs as their back off command with them. One dog is good...the other is trouble!


Our best hunting fool, a Britt, was addicted to Chick TV. He went after a Roo that came with our new country property and Roscoe the Roo survived. I knew I had to do something. We used a collar for hunting our dog so I put that on him. I'm going to take some flack for this, but I told him to get the chickens and he went after it. I had the collar on him and put him in his place. With this dog it only took ONCE to get the message. He never messed with the chickens again. He did still hunt like a fool.

Our current Britt, would probably never get the gist of this plan. He is a great hunter. He knows what a collar is and will respect it as long as its on. Take it off and all chickens would be fair game.
The Britt is on a short list. He killed 5 chickens last year and a goat kid this last year. I won't put up with another kill of livestock. I love this dog but he is hardwired to hunt and anything moving is fair game.


I could suggest a collar therapy program for your dog, but each dog is so different. It works for some and doesn't for others. Your best defense is a strong fence and strong reinforcement of that fence. My goats and dog co-exist because of the fence. In lieu of a strong fence, a great coop and run are necessary.

Be sure to be aware that it works for some dogs, but not for others. We have one it didn't work with as well.
