What kind of ducks do you raise?

Well, I started out with two Khaki Campbells and a Pekin - they're my little "laying" flock and are housed away from everyone else. I raised a batch of Runners last year, but they were all Fawn & Whites, and I don't care for the color and sold them all. This year, I raised two Mallards who I think are a boy/girl pair - in which case I'll probably have some of their offspring next year.

I also got 6 Dark Campbells, 1 Buff Runner, 1 White Runner, and 2 Dutch Hookbills this year - most of which will be staying here with me. Next spring, I've got some more Hookbills and Runners coming from Holderreads, and then I can finally start really hatching from my own stock.

As far as getting started in chickens, my mom wants some RIR's from a neighboring farmer, and I want some Wheaten Ameraucanas. But Poco Pollo's little "Rotisserie" Barnevelder is so cute that it's made me look into that breed as well!

9 Chicks out!!!! I am thrilled! This is the best hatch I have had. I started with 24 eggs shipped from Utah to Ohio, lost 3 to shipping, ended up with 16 eggs that looked like they made it to hatch day. So that is 50% right? We will take pictures and see what you all think they are cuz I am clueless, other than the welsummers because of the egg color. I think one may be a Langshan has 5 toes I will probably keep that one only because I will keep it warm in the winter so it's top hat doesn't freeze.

Oh and the other eggs are due to go on lock down so tomorrow I will quick clean out the bator and lock it down again....
