Okay I know I’m crazy but I just got 3 more chicks

I just couldn’t help myself. I have 2 adult hens 12 4 week olds and now 3 babies

Wondering if there is actually a diagnoses for someone who just happens to find out someone has chicks and has to (like a physical need to) go and get some

I understand your struggle, chicken math is going strong this year for me too. There's so many breeds I haven't tried yet

As long as you have a coop that is big enough, and enough income to feed them, whats the problem?
Chickens are and have always been a hobby of mine.
Sure i could have spent my time and money on something others would see as more practical, or yield some kind of pay back. Like buying savings bonds for example.
But, everybody has something they waste time and money on, right?
Books, movies, cigaretts, sports car, dogs, cats, booze, gambling....the list goes on and on...
Chickens are my thing. They are good for my sanity.
Your chicks are adorable, you are probably not going to get any arguments here.

The five new chicks I have out in my run right now will be earning their keep come September. The only slackers in my flock are the old retired girls, and even the ten and eleven year olds laid a few eggs this past month. I buy their feed with the egg money.

Anyway, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

I actually did this same thing years ago

Started with 4, a month later got 6 more a few weeks later got 6 more. So I stayed away from anyplace that sold chicks. I did not go to the feed store on Mondays during chick season (that’s the day the chicks came)
So I’m down to 2 hens and thought I could behave and just get a few

Now I have 15 new chicks plus the 2 hens.

I am so thankful I don’t like alcohol

I just love watching my chickens. Animal behavior is so fascinating. I had turkeys but they just didn’t do it for me. They were not nearly as interesting but boy was my Tom handsome.

I’m glad I have you all. At least someone understands
