Okay this may just be me as a vegetarian, but it seems very wrong to feed chickens chicken. It's cannibalism. And I also heard that feeding them meat (other then bugs) is bad for them, so dont do it. Please just the thought repulses me.

wave a fresh cooked chicken breast in front of them and see how much the "hate" it......I have been told so many things about feeding them meat, especially feeding them chicken meat:
"it degrades there DNA", "it's not good for them" etc.

it's no different then a hen egg eating! cannibalism is, in most cases, a natural occurance in the animal kingdom. just because these birds are domesticated doesn't mean they wouldn't do the same to their own flock...at least what you would feed them would be cooked!

mine LOVE canned TUNA!! it's like crack for them!! the protein is great for them too!

It just seems terribly wrong, and even if they like it there's no harm in feeding them tasty veggies. i mean if there was just a piece of chicken on the ground i wouldnt stop them from eating it, but i would never introduce them to cannibalism. It just creeps me out...

Then feed your chickens how you want, and let us feed ours how we want. We're not making you eat meat, and not making you eat our cannibalistic chickens or their eggs. Let it go.

As a vegetarian, do you have a problem with them eating bugs? If your girls are free-range, even if you feed them vegetarian feed (as some of us do, let's not argue about animal/vegetable protein, plz), they will still eat worms, beetles, flies, and other bugs. They might eat a frog, a mouse, or even a snake if they manage to catch one. If that kind of behavior is going to be a problem, you probably need to rethink your chickens.

Jeez I'm not trying to start anything!

I just think that you have a choice to raise your chickens morally, you would choose to. Its not like there aren't any other treats they can have.

Well, I wouldn't really feed my chickens my KFC or Popeye's, but I am feeding my chicks hard boiled egg every night. It does seem weird in a way, but they like it and I like the quality treat time with them. They seem to as well.
