And now that I see that no one here agrees with me, I feel horrible for even raising the subject. I basically just wanted to say that it seems odd to me that people would choose to feed their animals that way, when they could choose a more moral path. I dont have anything against eating meat, the thing I hate is when people disrespect animals or vegetarians, because I try not to disrespect meat-eaters. It's almost like religion in a sense; I wouldn't yell at anyone for being christian even though I dont agree with them. I apologize once again, and I hope to choose my words more carefully in the future. And some of you should re-read your posts, most of you sounded perfectly kind and cautious of others feelings, but a few of you were a bit rude.

I understand that you're trying to apologize here and appreciate that. I highlighted the part that I think is bothering people (or at least me). You are basically suggesting that I am less moral than you because I have different values than you do, and I object to that.

Your choice to feed your animals one way is based on your values and views is not more moral than my choice. I consider it immoral to waste food. I choose to eat properly raised chicken, and view feeding leftovers including protein to the chickens (which they are evolved to eat, unlike ruminants) as more moral than throwing it away. That's one of the reasons I got chickens. For me, that is the more moral path.

I hope this helps you understand where some of the reactions are coming from.​

Agreed. I think this is the slippery slope. Morals are not absolutes. They are individual decisions that guide our behavior. Most people put a lot of thought into deciding what is moral to them and how they plan to act/or not act in accordance to those decisions. I appreciate your passion in your beliefs. I'm a passionate person, too. Again, like I said before, I think the part that is rubbing people the wrong way is that you are continuously making claims that your morals are the ONLY way and if someone else doesn't subscribe to them, then they are less moral. I think it's the implied judgment that is the problem. What if we were talking about something else entirely? Like... religion. (Please, Lord, let us not do that for real) but it would be like saying that being a Lutheran is moral and being a Baptist is not. That wouldn't really be fair, would it? We're all trying to do the best we can. We all pick the path that we feel is right for us. Once we get in the place where we start casting about claims about being more moral than someone else the waters start to boil. I know you are not meaning to be offensive and I can also see that you are sincerely confused as to why this topic keeps getting people riled up. I hope this helps you glean some understanding.

And by the way, although I do feed my chickens meat scraps of just about every kind, there are actually quite a few people who don't feel comfortable feeding their chickens chicken. I've seen their posts in the past. It just so happens that none of them stumbled across your post

I understand what the OP was trying to say at first. I first thought when my chickens ate chicken

but then I came to realize they are chickens not humans they don't care they don't know that the cut up chicken breast is what they are to them its food. Right now my chickens are for eggs not meat. I live in town. But when I get my farm I will raise chickens for meat and eggs. I also have a rooster and feed my chickens cooked eggs. I read that someone thought that this was wrong also because the eggs were fertilized I think everyone's morals leads them down their own path. Just because my chickens get different meats does not mean that I am a unmoral person just that I feel different then you do about it. We humans see things way different then animals if you look at it from an animal's view you would see they don't care its food. I am glad that you feel so strong about this it makes you who you are.

Huh? According to who's morals? Your chosing to be a vegetarian does not make the way I or other people eat morally wrong. It's your choice just as it's mine to eat meat. It is not against my morals. Chickens were not meant to be vegetarians.....no matter how much you'd like to believe that. They can actually be very blood thirsty creatures.......they see blood on a fellow chicken and they'll basically eat that chicken alive unless they are seperated. Have you ever seen what happens when they get a chance at some pinkie mice? They love meat plain and simple.

Trying to put your personal morals onto a fowl is just plain wrong.​

I dont think mother o' chicks72 has to apologize to anyone here. She is entitled to her opinion and as "left-field" as it may be it is her opinion. If you dont like it, move on to the next post or post your thoughts without attacking her for her beliefs. I sure love to eat meat and I feed to my chickens when I have left overs but I am not going to come here and give mother o' chicks72 hell for her beliefs. She has a completely different life style as most of America but that doesnt mean that she cannot have an opinion on the matter, as harsh as it may seem to some (some of the other posts were harsher than anything she has said). Please define moral. No, don't, that will start a fire fight here, and we don't want that. But I think the problem is that you are implying that feeding chicken back to chickens is somehow immoral, and I don't know that anyone would take that lying down. Nor would they want to be told that they are disrespecting their chickens by doing it.

The vegetarian concept is not the issue. The issue is that you tried to convert people to your way of thinking by making them feel immoral and guilty. I understand and appreciate the apologies, and we can agree to disagree, without being disagreeable.

Okay, enough of that. I free range as often as possible, but I don't feed meat scraps. Has nothing to do with who/what I am, I just feel that minute pieces of meat, grease spots, etc., attract predators.​
