I don't Know about that, check the laws in Ohio, and Contact Your local Animal Control.

I don't see any reason why you can't trap it, put it out at the street and let A/C take it. If they can see the chickens from the road, I'd think you have a problem with them anyway.......just sayin....from a LEO

I know the laws in my area. I am breaking them by having chickens. Animal control was of no help. I will probably just drown it, when I catch it.

I understand. I'd be careful, too. But then, like I said before, I only use a pellet gun. It could ricochet too but without nearly the disastrous result he had. Just seems like anytime anyone suggests anything, someone is always screaming NO NO. Yes, we all know of people that are assumed to be inept with a gun. Sometimes they even are. But shooting into the ground isn't anything like the hazard of shooting with the neighbor's house as your backdrop. Other than the rare freak accident like you cite, it's generally recognized as safe to do so.

Here is the basic rules of safe and effective ways of dispatching trapped animals.


If it is in a regular jaw snap trap, club the animal.


If it is in a haveaheart trap drown it. There are many options for drowning, you could drown it in a creek, pond, bathtub, etc.
