***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Glad to hear. My old cat, that was my companion when we lived in San Diego and DH was at sea ALOT, made it to almost 16 years. I still tear up when I think about him. I swear he could read my mind. He stayed right by my side when I had a 12 day migraine.

We rescued my favorite kitty when his eyes weren't even open. I bottle fed and helped him go potty w/ a warm washcloth. The first night we had him in a box on a heating pad (remember his eyes weren't open yet) right by the bed, he climbed up and out of the box to the bed across Gary and didn't stop until he got in the nape of my neck where he slept from then on. He used to suck on my neck when he was hungry, and continued even after he was weaned, until he was just over a year old. I had cat "hickies" on my neck, seriously for a year. He only lived to 10.

Gosh! I'm so jealous, I often don't get a lunch and have a hard time fitting in a trip to the Lady's room!

Don't be. I took this job because it'd make it easier to finish college (since I can do a lot of my homework at work). However, there is no way that 1. I could make enough to stay here and 2. being bored most of the day is actually mentally painful.

Oh Michael, I love those pheasants! I researched them this past summer because I saw one at Mary's last spring and would have loved to have one. From everything I read though they don't act "pet like" like chickens do. Is that true? They're so beautiful.

They are a beautifull bird, very teritorial, can interbreed sucessfully with poultry, and are typically very poor layers.
Should ahve added very nervous and do better where they have cover to hide in.

Seriously? As in interbreed w/ chickens? What is the offspring called? Are they sterile (the offspring)?

What I would end up doing if I ever got some is hatching them myself. It sounds like they're easily tamed down if they're handled a lot when they're young. Darn it, Michael.....now you've already got me planning another pen! I think I read it take like 2 yrs for the males to get those gorgeous colors. They'd sure look nice next to my Royal Palms......

Joe those will lay two or three dozen if you keep them taken up.They are very interesting and very easy to raise, give them a try!

Ksane, actually they do make great pets. Maybe not for holding but they will tame down and are very interested in watching you as much as we watch them. My males were always showing off for me or comming over to see what I was doing. I put clumps of sage grass in my pens and they loved to hide among them and pop out to see you. They will set but I always used bantams for hatching. Just be ready, they can go thru wire and run fast in just an hour or two!

Welcome new folks. Glad you could join us. I am one of the out of stste Okies. But will be returning soon I hope.

Good looking birds Michael,do you have any of the other colors. I think there are around five colors now.
