***OKIES in the BYC III ***

She is eating & will stand up once she can get her head turned around. It is really hard for her to turn her head around though. I did read up on the treatments mentioned, everything does say it is normally crested birds, by I am going to try & do the vitamin treatment. Will monitor her close, but I am skeptical on her recovering. She had much more control of her head this afternoon about 1 or 2. Sad to watch her struggle.

Sounds like it could be Botulism brought on by the digging in the pen and the rain. Chances are moldy things were brought to the surface. Botulism is also known as limberneck. Range disease or range paralisis is Mareks disease and usually the bird looses control of the legs first. Most of the time one will be pointed forward and one to the rear.

Anyway if you have some Mollasses cut it 50% with water and get as much as that down the bird as you can. What that will do is to flush the intestinal tract and get the toxins out. Just to cover all bases I would go ahead and feed the recipe that you were given in case it is a vit. defeciency. You can also use three drops of Poly-Vi-Sol infant vits, without added iron, Twice daily to get things going as quickly as you can.

that seems like an easier way to administer the flush than others i've read..... so they will drink it on their own?

rofl! This is what my Cochin chicks do

The Silkie chicks just dive right in. The Cochins stand at my feet, look at the food then look at me waiting for me to hand feed them lol! Yep. I never shoulda' started that when they were tiny. But it's ok, I'll hand feed them anytime they want, I sure love those babies.

Even my Roo eats out of my hand, but I think he has a crush on me b/c of my red hair. He is always looking at it, and when I have it down he always has to touch it.

As far as I know, everyone in the field got at LEAST a 1% reduction PLUS a percentage of underutilization pulled from this years' budget (if you didn't bill out $33,000 last year, they removed that $33,000 from this year's budget as of 1 November). The problem is that almost all of the underutilization came from the fact that their new billing system has HUGE problems. Like... we'd bill for it correctly, they'd tell us it was correct, but the system wouldn't recognize the service and therefore wouldn't pay it.

Almost every agency took huge hits financially because of it. Every treatment center in the El Reno area except ours (within a 60 mile radius, excluding the OKC metro) closed their doors during this last fiscal year (our year runs 1 July to 30 June). Our facility in El Reno is only open because of rainy day funds from previous years. Their billing problems continue... we billed several thousand dollars worth of services two weeks ago. Last week they paid us... $540. The rest is in "forthcoming" status, and who know when they'll release it. Another director called us today to commiserate... they got a THREE DOLLAR CHECK last week. Way to go, huh? How many people could pay their bills if their employer just decided "Oh, we're going to cut your salary 38%, even though our problem is why the issues occurred?

This is totally a topic derailment. I'm sorry, I'm just upset. It's ridiculous.

Many times they will but I got in a hurry to get the answer out. I will use a crop tube. There is no danger of the tube going in the wrong place as the opening for the lungs is at the back of the mouth and much smaller. Plus you can feel the tube in the crop before filling the crop.

A crop tube is easy to make, all it takes is a syringe and some plastic tubing that slips over the end of the syringe. I usually use about a foot of tubing so I can hold the bird with one hand and have the syringe far enough away from the bird so it doesn't get knocked around.

Went out with a syringe of molasses cut with water. Everyone in my house is asleep so I only had the 4 dogs to assit me in administering the molasses. I think at most I was able to get 1/2 tsp down, I rinsed her beak with some water afterwards. The bird & I are both nice & sticky now. I will try again tomorrow, figure I should be able to get a whole syringe down with assistance. When I went out this time she didn't try to left her head, so hope she makes it through the night.

Since she is eating I will add vitamins & molasses to her food & water tomorrow. Thought about injecting some tylan too. Figure at this point nothing I do could hurt!

Oh, here's a funny. James just texted me and said they got a raise (DoD/DAF police on base). I said "GREAT!! So, when are you going to pick up that new roofing for the coop?"

He called me laughing so hard he was having a hard time catching his breath. Apparently he made a BET that I'd say that...

When I worked road construction we ran into things like this all the time. The powers that be just love to change the rules just about the time you think you have them figured out.
