***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I was eyeballing peanut seed @ Ross last time I was in there. I am sure I will pick up a few basics in there. When it comes to peppers & tomatoes I like lots of variety. Sad part is I don't even eat tomatoes! But they sure look pretty & I will cook with them.

We started our day @ the Newcastle show. DD was impressed with the HUGE barred rock & RIR. She also LOVED the giant geese-- dn remember what kind they were. Now she says she wants some spangled & Blue silver duckwing.

Then we went to myriad gardens. Wasn't too crowded, but crowded enough it was has to get any pics. The place looks really good since the remodel.

Now we are @ frontier city. Oldest DD is riding rides w friends so I am riding rides w youngest DD. I usually try to watch from the sidelines. The rides are so hard on my body. I am sure that is because God didn't intend on us to ride coasters in loops backwards

Look at the beautiful birds!

I make my own scratch. Regular scratch contains milo, which is basically junk. There's no nutritional value. So I make mine, mixing a bag of BOSS, oats, corn, and wheat. Personal preference though. I usually also throw in alfalfa pellets into the coop, but I might mix it in with the next batch of scratch I make.

So do you feed them actual chicken feed/pellets in addition to the scratch grain you make? What I wanted to do was exactly what you're doing-mix several different complete grains instead of using the scratch.

Yeah I free feed pellet in a hanging feeder, and throw some of my scratch in the morning. In the winter instead of throwing the scratch, I'll take several cups of it and add boiling water to make a mash, and add molasses. Then I'll re-heat portions in the morning and feed that to them over the week. Kinda like feeding them hot nutritional oatmeal.

People may think I'm crazy for doing that, but eh. YMMV.

Sounds like a plan to me. That's just what I'm going to do also.
