Robin,
Here is a short list, but it is all about what other symptoms may exist..
Dehydration, Comb will also shrivel and shrink.
Worms, breast will also be loosing weight
Mite, or Lice, or other parasitic infestation which includes fleas
Coccidiosis, comb will shrink, weight loss, lack of eating and decreased water intake.
Generally ill with just about anything,
resperatory infections,
Or the best possible for the bird it is cold and restricted blood flow to the comb to conserve heat.

Thanks Carl you are so much better at the information part.

Thanks Nana, I always like to learn. Pictures are a good thing for me.

I don't really have an answers for you. I would see if I can find anything in the stuff Carl listed above. I'm sure you are already are giving her extra protein like eggs & stuff.

Nanakat - So sorry to hear about ImaJean.

Faerielady - There are lots of folks on the other threads (and a lot of other places on the internet, too) who will argue to the death their point and shoot down everyone else's opinions. Name calling seems to be the order of the day sometimes, too. I read a lot of the other threads but rarely post because of the bickering that goes on. The Okie thread is by far the friendliest place I've found on BYC.

SharonB - Welcome! Always happy to have new folks here.

One of the newest birds I've acquired, the one who is feathered like a Buttercup, but with a single comb, is quite a handful. She doesn't like to roost in the coop with her buddies. I keep finding her in trees or on top of the coop, then last night she insisted on sitting on top of the fence. I shooed her off three times before I finally gave up and left her there. She also is a cranky ol' thing and will peck. She was broody before, or so I thought. Still not sure, but after I came home from my week-long trip, she no longer wanted to sit on eggs. She has been laying lots of nice, beautiful brown eggs though, so I guess I'll keep her bossy butt around.

Nanakat, so sorry about Imajean

Good news on our front... the Deputy Commissioner ruled on our side and reduced our budget cut from 38% down to 1% because the original cut was based on data from another mental health & substance abuse clinic, not our own utilization. You see, most of our clients are indigent OR parolees/people on probation/DoC referrals, so the "make up the money with Medicaid funds" does NOT apply to us since they don't qualify for Medicaid. So THAT is a load off my mind.

This means I'm going to start pooling money for the new coop and finish remodeling the old coop that I'm not currently using (yet).
