All right Ya'll, I need to ask some advice.
Long time reader, ( I have read OKIES in teh BYC threads 1 and 2 and have read about 1200 of the pages in 3) and I am a first time poster.
I was doing fine resisting ordering birds online and just looking at the pretty pictures then Atwoods started in with the fall banties and now here I am. 21 total. I'll run 'em down sig-style for you: 1 Black sex-link hen*, non-laying. 1 red-star hen*, known as BIG RED thinks she is a rooster also non-laying, 1 white EE pullet (I'll say EE as I read that debate thread ;-) ) (she is white and rumpless), 1 RIR pullet, 17 banties...3 of them are frizzles and all of them are so freaking adorable I can't stand it.
enough about me on to the reason for my post:
Seeing as how I have "tender-hearted" tattooed on my forehead I was gifted with a "special needs" banty. She/he is referred to as Shecky and Shecky has a non-aligning beak. No pincer actions in the beak at all, just scooping/licking and poking. Seems to be growing fine, drinks and eats and poos all good, starting to really feather-up.
crossing my fingers this picture shows up:
Where I am wondering is on the preening/grooming. Being tender-hearted, I know I am going to have to take special care of Shecky anyone got any advice ? Shecky is also gifted with giant feathered feet and I know I will be washing those, but is there a way to help a bird preen?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Kelly
*I think they are...but I have no real idea.
