I see everyone else felt the quake too. It was interesting reading all the reports on FB & here. I was asleep so when it woke me it took a minute to process what was going on.....
Thanks for all the congrats I will pass it on to her when she wakes up. Trying to let her sleep as long as possible since she has a soccer game right after church. This has been a busy weekend.
Robin - The pictures of Stay Puff got me thinking... and reading... and pretty soon I'd convinced myself to get some silkies to use as broodies. The last time I visited and saw how big SP has grown, I knew the broodie idea was a good one. I have an online friend in California who is raising meat birds using broodies as surrogate mothers. She is able to put a dozen chicks out with each broodie, really early, so that they start on pasture sooner. She says she doesn't see illness with the birds out early on pasture, and there's no need for heat lamps with the broodie hens. She's also using cochins. I'm going to run a parallel experiment here in the spring. Timing is going to be an issue, but maybe I'll get lucky and have a few who will take babies without hatching any first. The barred cochin hen I got at the sale in Stilwell is part of the experiment as well. She's a sweet, sweet bird. I've had her out to free-range alone (still a quarantine bird), and she walks right with me like a little pup.
By the light of day...no cracks in the foundation on walls. Highway 62 was closed until the three buckles in the road were fixed. The road grader is parked just down from the house. We are taking calves to market today so got to go hook up.

The second one looks girly to me, undecided on the first one though.
yeah, that first one is hard to tell, the feather coloring makes it hard to tell by the hackles and saddle feathers-
how ya doing lynn? did you guys feel that quake?
Slept through the one last night, felt the one that was early in the morning though. How about you ?
Have not been outside this morning to look around, still trying to get my caffiene fix !
Well so far, so good on the fall food plot, the birds have been having a feast on the 1st area planted, have had them off of it and on the 2nd area for a week now. I will try to post updated pics later today, have to get some chicken yard work to do today, waiting for DH to rise and shine so that we can spend some time outside togather, my work schedule does not allow for things like that during the week. With the time change it will be dark when I go to work and dark when I get home. But I love the 4 day work week, just don't like the long days. DH is not able to keep up with all of the animals, house and his projects alone, don't know how he managed it all before he retired, seems like he is busier now than when he worked a full time job, we had kids at home and we had all of the chores to do. I am not so sure I am ready to retire, seems like you work just as much if not more when you retire. But at least you can sit and watch the chickens when you want. Tanks for the ideas on the green tomatoes, I picked a galvanized wash tub full last sunday, they have been laying in trays all week and are starting to ripen.
