I have bantam of several breeds, and he did get me started in pigeons.

His health is pretty crappy, back problems, cold, all sorts of fun stuff.
He sleeps most of the time anymore, bit we do talk every so often.

Thanks sooner, kinda what it seemed like. I don't get on here much, all the pics make pages take forever to load.

Thanks for everything everyone.

Okla-doodle, you are going to get in trouble mister! I have Brenda's email address! I'm sure I can stir something up as payback!

What kind of bantams do you have? DD shows mostly bantam, she is into OEGB & moderns for the most part lately. She got a nice set of wheatons at the Fayetteville show.

Meancock,
you found the right thread, everything gets mixed up a bit in here. Not many in here breed real hard, only a few show, and it's show season right now with very few of us doing much hatching or breeding. heck I only have 5 breed pens set and going right now myself.
What are you raising and for what purpose?
Do you show?
Are you actively breeding and hatching this winter?
Got any good conditioning, care, clean up tips for everyone you would share?
Do you have projects underway or planned?

We have been working on Columbian OE, and Opal OE. Both are turning out pretty good this year and hope for better next year.

here is one of my Columbain OE cockrells, great body, short leg I liked everything about him except the fox that liked him more.

here is one of my Opal Cockrells and a Pullet, type is getting so much better.

And of course the Birchens we have been working on. I have asked Micheal to keep an eye out for either splash or black Rosecomb, I would like to work on Silver Blue and Birchen Rosecombs next year.

It has been awhile since I have been online, my work life gets really hectic summer and fall. Now its Christmas and sure to be crazy again. Not to worry though, chicken math is still at work here and we continue to grow

I see that the show in Shawnee is Saturday. Can anyone tell me about it? Never been, is it just show chickens? Do they sell chickens? Or is there maybe a website somewhere about it? Will I see some familiar POOPS faces, who all is going?

It will be strictly show birds, not this weekend but next weekend. Saturday early will be your best time to visit the sales area. The show will be 1/2 the size it was last year the entries were aparently limited to 2500 but expanded to 2900. Much less than the 5000 last year. Unfortunately we will not be showing this year, it was full up by the time our entries got in, Someone else here reported the same thing.
if your going there to buy take a pocket full of $$ they will be good but not cheap.

Ok so sadly there is no atwoods around me but Ive found a couple recipes on the web that im going to try. Guess that's what im doing tomorrow. Making sausage.

So does anybody here raise show quality dutch bantams? Been wanting to raise some for a while and the article on the new byc magazine just pushed me over the edge Pluse DW gave me the ok to get some.

Howdy Neighbor! Thanks for the info and date correction. Hopefully not buying, don't really want to add more chickens this time of year. How are your chickens coming? Have any cochins or wyandottes? Oh man, you wouldn't believe the size of our cochin from you...well yes you would...but we call him boots because he has the most feathers on his feet and legs I have ever seen. He was the little black chick we bought and I don't think he is full grown yet. Still haven't heard him crow, but he isn't laying eggs either, so I am pretty sure its a "he". I think he will be a giant when he is fully grown and a beauty! Whatever do you give your chickens to get them so big?

The show in Shawnee is well worth going to. You'll see some great quality poultry from many different states, as this is one of the premier shows. There will also be turkeys, geese and ducks. Last year was twice the size because it was the national show for the American Poultry Association as well as several breed clubs. The main part of the show will be Saturday, with awards given out early Sunday.

You'll find good quality birds of many breeds at the sale, which is in an adjoining room. For a chance to buy the best quality birds, it is good to get there Friday evening or early Saturday morning. You can usually get bargains late Saturday. Most years there is also a pigeon show in the other half of the building, but I don't know if it will be there this year. There will be a number BYCrs there. I'll be there with silkies. Others will chime in to let you know who is coming.

Wow, I must have just sneaked in under the wire with my entry. Got worried about mine as I only mailed it a few days before the deadline, but I got an e-mail back from my inquiry that mine did arrive in time. I really, really need to sell as many silkies as possible! I'm having my second knee replaced the day after the show, and Vashi will have to take care of all my poultry again until I'm able.
