It was really great to meet you Robin!
I love my Guinea drawing. I have a great old vintage guilded frame that has been waiting a few years for something so nice to put in it.
Your cochin mama is so cute. I recently realized that in all the old images of hens nesting with chicks they are usually cochins. My girls have hatched some themselves but I have taken the chicks away since it was either in the middle of the snowstorm or they had hatched in a "nest box" with high sides or a coop with no ramp for them to get back up inside. I've got to fix that.
I'm glad you like the book. I have always been a mammal lover and had admired some birds (hawks, hummingbirds, ducks, songbirds), but the book opened my eyes to pigeons and crows. Of course my chickens have shown me how birds can have personalities!
MJ

i am really enjoying that book! i put your 2 little chicks in with my hatchery two, and they are all best buds now- they are so beautiful! was thinking if one ends up being a roo, i'll just have to make another pen! izzy and babies are doing fine- she is showing them how to eat and i could just sit for hours watching them-

Guy, Old*Cowboy, got her for $34. Pretty sure he'd have gone higher if he'd had to!

Yes I am sure he would have too.

I told Cuban early on I would trade the leather binder with the other POOPS bird on it for the hen. She already had the hen commited to the auction. She later bought the leather binder so I was prepaired to go as high as the binder cost her for the hen. Lucky for me it didnt come to that and still got a wonderful hen.

I asked my wife to come and get me when that hen came up for auction, I think that she had to answer the call of nature about that time.

My what timing!!

Okracefan,I'm sorry I missed you! Yes we had to leave early to meet other commitments. My niece that took me to poops was secretly(not much of a secret!) wanting her so I told her she could take it when we hadn't found you before we left. She also had a single male partridge!

Now Les ! I'm sure Teva wouldn't plan anything unscroupulous to keep you from spending a fortune on a gamey chicken!lol
Tell her I really liked her rats. I would love to raise some I just can't get over the tail! Mice tails don't bother me but the rat tails sure do!lol I really liked the light tan/reachy colored one Teach got. Thats the first I had seen that color. I may have to see if I can find a market for them and try my hand. But I would sure need a market so I didn't get covered up with them. I will say hers were the cleanest I have ever seen!

Teva takes a lot of pride with her rats and they preen and in warm weather, durn drafty trailer house, they get regular baths. It's nothing for her to be watching tv and have a rat or two running around the bed.

They are very playful and like nothing better then to run around on the inside of your shirt peeking out of the cuffs of your sleeves or your collar.

The tail really got to me at first but after looking at them and playing with them I got over it, kinda like owning a NN. LOL
One of her rats years ago would sit on my shoulder and curl his tail around my neck and sleep that way while I was on the computer or watching tv. Another thing that will gross you out at first is when they preen you which involves a lot of licking so you will look just right and be squeaky clean!
