***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Not having the room that I want & not having culled as I should have this summer it has put me behind the eight ball now(i'm getting use to being there too) I think I need to do alot as far as taking care of what I have then moving on to improvements & that may even come down to not hatching at all again. I need to actually make a plan & actually follow it. LOL.

I know you did well with your breeding last year. CAn't wait to see what you end up with this year. If I end up not hatching I will be buying! LOL.

Rebecca, I'm very interested in the improvements you've made to sterelite brooders you told me about while in Shawnee. Might you be able to post instructions/ pics? I definitely need to make imrovements to mine! Thanks!!

No big deal, I will set some stuff asside and when they are ready and you are ready we will make it happen.
I am currently waiting on my new columbian pullets to start laying, thats where the real good ones will come from, the Opals I have already hatched about 30 out of the absolute best feathered, typed, and colored birds we have produced to date, and will only continue to get even better from here. The Birchens I have I do not believe anyone can compete with, brown red I have some that will compete at any level and breed very well.
When you are ready let me know and we will walk through what I have and set you both up very well.
I am most interested in getting some good Opals out to be seen and shown heavily, as well as Columbian.
I will also have Blue Columbian this coming fall.

Morning all! We are on the road,taking MIL to Little Rock to meet the sorry SIL ! She had 8 weeks to make her plans to cone and get her but still couldn't get it together.so how is she supposed to cope with 24 hour care! Oh well sorry for the rant.
Traffic is heavy and it's cloudy.

wow Jar is,that's a lot of chicks!and I guess you have to keep them. Till they are almost grown to pick out the good ones.

Morning everyone, hope all had a wonderful Christmas, we did and of course Heather aka The Princess got way more than she needed!!! LOL Dakota did pretty good and really like the toolbox and new tools he got(turns 16 in Jan!!!) I as usual ate wayyyyy toooo much!!! But Jessie made this scrumptious Upside down Pecan Apple Pie that was to die for, I made my usual Eagle bnrLemon Chevon pie!!! OOOOHH Yeah it was GOOOOD!!!! Took my folks out to view the lights in Ponca City and went out to eat at The Patio Mexican resturant, it was delisious and well worth it, huge potions, even Dakota had to ge a togo plate!!!! Had Braum's icecream and headed back home, really enjoyed the evening, Jessie's folks came up and I fixed a ham dinner and we opened gifts from them!!! As you all know, I have been down at my back and was supose to see a spinal specialist on the 21 of Dec., that was delayed and rescheduled for Jan12. so still not able to do much, it ake me all day to do stuff, it's irritating but I do what I can't within my limitations, took me all morning to make home made egg noodles the other day, but the smile on the faces of my familywhen they ate supper was worth it, made a home made Chicken pot pie (found a recipe for the crust from an old cook book and it is devine!) Thought Dakota was going to lick a hole in the pan before he quit eatin!!! Been a long time since I fed me a teenager, now that boy can eat, but hey so could his sisters and older brother!!!! Woulod love to get them all together at one time and feed them sometime!!! Everyone is always busy now days, please remember to take the time to hug someone or tell them you love them! As for my birds, I ended up with a bunch of Flying Rollers(some of yours Wayne!!) from a friend of mine's wife after he passed away, I got a friend and Dakota to move me a big cage where I wanted it and got it set up, I sat for hours and just watched them pigeons, I had forgoten how much I love to set and watch them. (I miss ya Sonny!!!) Anyways, my chickens are all doing good, they have layed good all through this up and down weather and I only lost a few, hens of course as usual. Well I'll quit ramblin and just say I love ya all and hope you all have a wonderful day!!!! Lynn

I did not hatch a great number of Columbian last year but made headway with them, then crossed a Columbian male on some of my wheaton hens, the cockrells were messy and kind of gold hackled which I expected but the mating was strictly for teh pullets which are all columbian in appearance with teh short leg, and heavy wide breast of my wheatons, even teh cockrells had more of teh wheaton body I set 1 cockrell asside which will be bred to both Columbian and Col. x wheaton pullets. Trying to add the heavy breast and shorter leg of my wheaton to the narrower, flatter breasted Columbian.

Totally in awe of you who have the patience and knowledge to breed chickens. I thought it would be fun to try, but after two really lousy attempts at hatching eggs I decided I'd let the breeding to those of you who know what you're doing, and I'll just be a buyer.

Funny how I could hatch "mutt" eggs all day long, but when I try some good eggs, it just doesn't happen for me. Guess I'll stick to my cattle.
