He is probably snowed with tests and kids today. It seems like the closer to the end of school the more activities they pile on.

However someone sent me a picture of him on the way home.

so it may have taken him a while to unload.

Hello peeps!

I was so glad to see you all on Saturday...there were a lot of new shiney faces too!

I am so VERY VERY VERY grateful to all of those who made this year's event happen...ya'll know who you know who you are, and I don't want to leave out any names...but please know that what you all did was a WONDERFUL thing! You guys ROCK!!!

All of my the little chicks and teenagers I got there are doing great...I was afraid I might have some losses because of the cold...some of my lil ones looked bad at first from being both stressed and chilled, but all are up and rowdy now! Good looking lil peeps! I am going to try and graft some of them on to one of my many broody hens so mama can raise them...it beats cleaning out the brooder! oh yeah, Teach...BTW, thanks for surrendering the EE chicks from the auction...they are adorable! I am going to share them with you and be sure to give you any cockerels out of that group!

MJGigax--The cochins are FABULOUS!! They settled right in with very little fuss, although they want to roost on things in the barn! Last night I had several newbies (besides the cochins) on the fence line and when I picked them up and put them on the roost bar, one of those lil 4 month old pullets of yours flew at me to try and roost on my head---either that or she was trying to kill me
lol.png
But I was AMAZED at her ability to fly like that...I was nearly 10 feet away! And it was so dark I don't think she was even able to see much detail about her surroundings...But I caught her like a football and just cracked up over her antics. Silly girl! After a few minutes I knew she wouldn't be able to see at all so I put her back on the roost and there she stayed! Good girl!

One thing that Vern and I realized as we were driving home form POOPS and talking about our day, was that we really ahve been so overly busy during the last 8-10 months that we have really cheated ourselves out of our chicken friend community...and we both really miss it! We are going to both try harder to be in touch! It hurts my heart that some of you I hadn't even seen or talked to in a year's time...and that is just too long! So ya'll might see us more frequently at the auctions and online...we need our peeps time and we miss you guys a whole bunch. I miss the laughter and fellowship sooooo much!

Gripe time!!!

Our Tractor Supply in Edmond has only 5 pound bags of medicated chick feed! I couldn't believe it! (and a $4.99 for that 5 pound bag to boot!
somad.gif
) One of my new POOPS friends works there and she said that their corporate stopped shipping it in 50# bags shortly after they stopped getting chicks in! When my friend told us that I know my jaw hit the floor...are they NUTS?? What are they thinking!? Has anyone else had the same issue with Tractor Supply in other areas of our great state? I may write a letter to their corporate offices just to let them know what a dumb move that is/was!!!

I do feel sorry for the TS staff in the stores though beause they have no control over what they get in from their warehouse, but the customers sometimes take it out on the employees when the feed or items they want aren't there. Not nice

Well I better do some work !

Advance notice would have been nice.

In keeping with CayuseRanch's comment about the funniest moment, I came up with a list of my own.

Funniest Moment:
When I a put a fully feathered chicken into Pepper's plucker and pulled it out clean, a young child said "It's naked!"

Most Enlightening Moment:
During my magic show for the kidos, when I pulled out an egg for a magic trick and said, "Now we will talk about chickens!", the kids let out one big, loud, collective GROAN. I knew then either they don't share their parents' affinity for our feathered fowl friends, or they were pretty much chickened-out from all the talk at home leading up to POOPS.

Most Tiring Moment:
Pretty much all day Friday setting up for the gig (see comments about Al in the above).

Most Satisfying Moment:
Sitting around with the organizers on Saturday evening talking about what could only be characterized as a very successful event.
Runner up: hitting the sack that night.

Suggestion: Look for an independent feed store. we have one that sells everything livestock even to medicine. Ours is called MFG, and we have another that pretty much sells the same thing.
this feed is produced in McCallister Oklahoma and they do have medicated chick feed in 50lb bags.
here is a few websites I found on line:
http://www.polocenter.com/health/feedusokd.htm page down for edmond, listed 4 stores

is there an alternative to honey? we don't have any- here is what i wrote to les on the situation

ok, that cochin is now lethargic, i gave her a bath due to mites? little black specks had congregated around her head and neck, she won't eat but will drink- if i put drops on her beak- she is now in a metal cage outside, opens her eyes occasionally- green poop- i suspect from not eating? i really doubt she will pull through this one, any suggestions? i have no idea what age she is, got her as an adult a few years ago

Thanks! well, right now she won't eat, but i put a little sugar in her water- i'll try to put some of the gamebird feed and see if she will eat- and will get ahold of les- thanks!
