Well I was gone a few days and returned to find that some dogs had managed to dig into one of my pens and killed my big Blue Shamo rooster that I got from Michael D.
Mad and sad! I posted signs but I don't think they can read! Too bad for them!

Do you know the dogs that did it?

Yes, I ran off two last week that were just nosin around. I am sure it was them taking advantage of no one being around. They didn't try and get into any other pens. I will be watching for them next time.

Greetings! I have been lurking and decided to post. After months of only white eggs from the California Whites and light brown eggs from the Australorp and Light Sussex, I got a blue egg from one of the three Ameraucanas yesterday! What a nice surprise.

I am heading out to the Panhandle to visit my folks tomorrow. Everyone have a great week!

Isn't the single comb more dominant than the pea comb?

The Blue Wyandotte may have been bred by the Blue Cochin also... her eggs looked small.... but consistant on size. That cross would be interesting also

Single comb is recessive to all other comb types.

Thanks Matt. A few of my hens may carry the gene. And this is a test breeding for the roo. If we get any, then he is also carrying the gene. We will know soon.

Did you go to the Newcastle auction or a different one? I'm sooo tempted to go to the Blanchard auction next weekend but I don't know if I can force myself not to get anything. I had every intention of only getting a couple Modern Bantam pullets at Newcastle and look how that panned out. I felt like a true redneck riding home in a mini SUV with chickens in cages stuffed in the back pooping and squawking and fussing. We stopped at Sonic after the auction and judging from the girls disinterest I'd say it wasn't the 1st Saturday night she waited on a vehicle stuffed full of chickens.
Okla, I saw Old Cowboy at the Newcastle auction. Didn't get a chance to go say hi to him though.
BuckGuy, that's terrible, I'm sorry!
Here's the tiny OEGB I got from Carl that I brought inside, she's only about 3-4 mo old and no bigger than my Doves. The adult girls kept pushing her away and I felt so dang sorry for her. So I'm going to keep her in until spring. Carl told me what color she was but I forgot, it's really pretty. The 3 I got from him all had some sort of fault that made them undesirable for showing. He showed me the faults (simple things like shading in the wrong places) but I tell ya-it meant nothing to me as someone who doesn't breed or show. This little girl is super tame! Carl's OEGBs are smaller than my Serama.....Robin? they'd make great indoor birds.......
