well, the day just keeps getting better, Just sold one of my big 56 horse ford tractors that steph has been complaining was "Just sitting in the yard". Good thing I had 2, but she won't complain too much since now I only have 1. But she will be rather pleased that 8x6 ft piece of dirt is now ready to mow..
I more thing down, and who knows how many more to go.

My husband got a bunch of 10' cedar 4x4's from his dad for free (he's got one of those portable sawmill things) so that's why I've used cedar posts for everything. I've still got 10 or 12 of them left. I don't know how I'd weld the pipe fences together but I bet it'd be funny to watch me try.

If'n you ever want some welded up give me a shout, furnish the pipe and the rods and a glass of sweet tea or two and I would be all over that. Fabrication is what I do best. Last I priced it 2 3/8 tubing was around $1.25-$1.50 a foot depending on the quanity and quality of the pipe.

1 1/2" sq tubing is about $70 for a 20 foot stick and that is med. walled new tubing. I've built a lot of gates and such out of 1 1/2. Beware though of metal selling at auction, often times it sells within just a few dollars of new stuff. A lot of oil-field pipe can't be sold for scrap due to the radiation content in it and that is why there is a lot of it out there. The lines we buried 30 years ago are starting to get replaced and there is still a lot of usable pipe. And no, as far as I know it won't make "glow in the dark" chickens.

Years ago we were sheeting a roof with 4x8 plywood and it was going well. We had the side facing the wind finished and was working on the back side of the house. One guy had a sheet and headed for the peak of the roof and didn't lay it down soon enough. Sure enough the wind caught it and he took off like a parasailer. Turned a 1/2 flip midair and landed on the plywood on the ground. Sure glad he wasn't hurt cause it took ten minutes for us to stop laughing.

How did you keep from rolling off the roof..laughing so hard!

Sure glad that oilfield pipe won't make my chickens glow...that's what the boys used to make all our corrals, H posts, corner posts and stretch poles.
Guess I should be glad the guys don't glow in the dark as well.

After all that was said and truthfuly I admit,Daniel-Delarosa just think of the fun you will have raiseing them! And somebody has to be able to help flood the market in the spring and summer so we can all go to auctions and have fun! I am making an order for chicks up but instead of getting layers or meat birds I am going for the rarer birds. There is always a market for unusual breeds at auctions and swaps. In my area polish are rare and expensive so I am including a top hat special in my order. There shoul;d be no problem moveing them even at peak supply times.
In the end its just plain ole fun raising chicks so don't get discouraged if you think you won't get rich.you will still experience a great treat!
Sounds like another nice day back home. It was terribly windy here and cloudy and pretty cool. Supposed to blow in some rain tomorrow. I worked all morning setting my cagebirds up in a new breeder setup I got off craigslit over the weekend. Kept letting different groups of chickens out to free range. They thanked me with a bunch of eggs.

cowboy,I'm enjoying your Tips! I'm with you about wanting to do so much around the place and not being able to anymore. I told the wife yesterday that I am afraid that by the time she gets ready to retire I will be to far over the hill to enjoy setting up my farmstead like I want. Of course she iis the eternal optimist so it didn't get far!lol

One thing I am enjoying about the new thread is everytime I log on its a new year on the post count! You know page 1961 ,1963,etc!lol Its like at trip down memory lane thinking "Oh yeah I remember that year,thats when...." LOl Easely entertained I guess!lol

Hubby had the septic tank guy clean out the tank at the rent house too It was in worse shape than ours. While hubby dug down to the tank with his tractor, he broke a water line to the hot water tank in the garage for the washer/dryer. When you buy property, you don't know what rigging has been done by the previous owner. Can't believe someone would lay a water line across the top of a septic box...but you never know.
He is out there now finally covering up the top of our tank.

I think he deserves something special for dinner....what can a man eat with 12 stitches in his lip...hmmmmmm.

With all the wind today, I had a hen lay her egg twice and I needed no help braiding my hair.

I am quite certian what ever you come up with will be absolutely enjoyed. I am the point I would find a way to eat those pickles even if I had a broken jaw all wired shut.

Thanks for the comments, I appreciate that. I too raise chickens for the fun of it. I plan on raising several duel purpose blue NN this year. Have the first eggs in the incubator as we speak. Taking a blue NN rooster over some Black Jersey Giants. Way I figure even if I get lots of roosters I can eat them all as fried chicken is tops in my books. Its kinda funny. When you figure the crosses I am playing with. The oriental game bantams and LF. And the pigeons. If I figure all the extra project stuff I got going. My eggs probable run me about 8 dollars a dozen for the ones I eat.
